This is AMAZING and a long time coming.

I wonder how quickly we can expect to see prices dropping and a change in prescribing tact…

If the fine leads to a drop in price of T3 then great.

But the article has various bits in it I find impossible to believe.

The idea that T3 is difficult to manufacture... Where did that come from? There are many T3 manufacturers around the world that make a product that works for patients, and they do it at a fraction of the cost that was being charged in the UK.

And I could never understand why the NHS didn't just find another supplier.

Yes I did read when someone asked that same question before that they are quite restricted on buying from abroad but no idea as to the truth to that. Will certainly be interested to see what happens next especially in conjunction with with the letter going out to CCGs to instruct them to follow the prescribing instructions.

Of course the Patels who came up with the exploitation of the loophole in pricing the generic in the first place sold out for millions and escaped the fines. Advanz was one of two companies fined a total of £260 million a couple of weeks ago for doing the same with hydrocortisone. You have to ask why they got away with it for over a decade re the latter and 9 years with the liothyronine despite the Times articles . The CMA grinds incredibly slowly to the detriment of NHS finances and to patients. i

Totally agree. Took a ridiculous amount of time. Hopefully the fine deters them and others from doing the same despite the slow justice!

I suspect the fine is a drop in the ocean in comparison to the profits they made over many years.

As far as I can see , the PATELS should be in prison for what they’ve done !How dare they scam our NHS. In this manner , by which , so many souls have suffered .

Sorry for being so angry but that’s exactly how I feel , and it not often that I do .

I am HYPERthyroid Graves , and don’t need T3 but I’m horrified by what these people have enabled , out of sheer greed and self advancement.

I hope they and all like them , are made to pay the price of that greed .

With appeals I very much doubt we will see price drops any time soon. Wonder if there was a shift in hydrocortisone price after the companies were fined a couple of weeks ago.

Yes I wonder how that could be checked. Good thinking.
