my T3 goes out of date 31st May and I still have a whole box left. I could do without another £99 cost 😭 do you reckon it would be ok for the next 2 months?

out of date liothyronine T3
I was tempted to hold on to some out of date T3 but in the end I thought it took me so long to get well I didn’t fancy chancing it invade it was losing potency. But I’m probably a too cautious
I’ve used mine when it’s gone over. If you have stored it out of sunlight and high temps it should be ok but if you feel symptoms creeping back in I’d ditch it.
RoseStar, It will almost certainly be fine for quite some time yet, so no need to panic. At some stage, it will probably start to gradually lose potency, but it will take many months before that becomes significant. We've had members here who take thyroid hormones a year or more after expiry dates, with no noticeable difference to their blood test levels.
I'm on high dose. T3-only and quite often use well out of date T3 with no issues....over a year! I have to have a reserve supply.Listen to your body it will tell you if something is wrong
Store as directed and take as advised
It doesn't suddenly lose potency overnight!
You'll be fine!
I am currently taking 25mcg Cynomel that expired in February 2023 with no issues at all, so I don’t think you will have any problems with yours. I believe helvella has published a table that will tell you the rate of deterioration in efficacy over time that you may find helpful.
Your medication will not magically lose all its potency on 1 June just because it has an expiry date of 31 May.
You are over-egging it! It was just an illustration mainly to show that the potency doesn't fall off a cliff-edge but does deteriorate steadily.

helvella's Vade Mecum document is available here:
helvella - Vade Mecum for Thyroid
The term vade mecum means:
1. A referential book such as a handbook or manual.
2. A useful object, constantly carried on one’s person.

thanks everyone!
Hello RoseStar,
I have used out of date Liothyronine before and if it’s been stored ok it should be fine. If you have symptoms creeping back in then you’ll know that it’s not up to normal strength. A doctor once told me that most drugs (if they’re out of date) will last for another year. Again storage being correct.
Hope this helps. Take care.
I'm using out of date T3 at the moment. It still works fine.
The only things that would make me throw T3 away would be if any of the following happened :
1) If they started to smell different to usual.
2) If they became discoloured.
3) If they started to crumble.
And as for potency...
If I thought some old pills were losing potency I'd up my dose by a tiny crumb rather than throw them away.
Hey. I'm still working my way thru some that expired in 2019, although I do have a stash of newer stuff... works for me!
