Thyroid help, I would love some advise if possible.

Hi,

I find myself here on this site due to being unwell for quiet a while. I now have some thyroid tests coming up. Which I also had done the year before last and everything came back fine.

My question is if anyone else in the thyroid community has experienced these symptoms? I will put a brief summery but if away could help I would be so grateful.

For the last 4 months on the 13th day of my menstrual cycle and once on the 19th day. I vomit! quiet badly..Mainly green bile, some times accompanied by a mile headache. (I am a migraine suffer and it feels very different to my stress head ache and migraines)

Last month, I spoke tommy GP and asked if it could be hormonal, as separate to this for 3 years or so, I have had extreme vertigo, tingling, strange feelings, fatigue, fast heart rate, low iron and weakness all over at certain times of the month. Brain fog, weight gain etc (the list of symptoms feel endless, but I want to keep this as brief as I can. Always feel worse around ovulation.

So my GP has recently suggested I go on the progesterone pill. However they are going to do a diabetes and a thyroid blood test! As I mentioned before in 2019 I was very very unwell but the thyroid test came back fine!

Up until today I felt I was right and it was a hormone imbalance as since taking the mini pill I feel different. However today the nausea still appeared slightly, if felt off and out of curiosity... I typed in thyroid and vomiting (as 'ovulation and vomiting' never really show up as much as I had hoped on google)

To my surprise for a thyroid it can be a symptom! along side teh aside stomach problems ive been having...Then I read more and Really ticked all symptoms.

My Nausea comes for one day then days after or random days my tummy feels like it is bubbling with lava, acid gut is the only way I could describe. This was once month but now more frequent.

I also have a symptom I feel isnt connected to thyroid but im putting it on here just incase anyone can tell me different.... When my other symptoms are at their worst, I have sleep apnea and also another random but connected to my symptoms 'planta fasciitis’ foot pain. All these symptoms coincide at the same time. However the vomiting started 4 months ago.

Doctors seem to be happy without doing to many tests to say lets try the pill.

But I still dont feel right. So after my long ramble my questions are.. Has anyone with thyroid problems suffered any of these while discovering hyperthyroidism?

and also could it be there is a problem and it still not show up in the blood test they do here in the UK?

Thanks so much to anyone who can possibly shed some light on this xx

Difficult to answer without knowing exactly what was tested, the results and the ranges. But, in theory, yes, that is possible. Can you ask at reception for a print-out of those blood tests? It is your legal right to have a copy.

Your symptoms sound more like hypothyroidism than hyperthyroidism. But, yes, I've had a lot of those. Sleep apnea and foot pain are also hypo symptoms. :)

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.

Important to see exactly what has been tested and equally important what hasn’t been tested yet

Far too often only TSH is tested

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Gut issues are common hypothyroid symptom

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

If TPO or TG thyroid antibodies are high this is usually due to Hashimoto’s (commonly known in UK as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto’s. Low vitamin levels are particularly common with Hashimoto’s. Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue too

Sounds very unpleasant. Plantar fasciitis is know to be more common in those with thyroid disorders I had real problems with it, as are brain fog, headaches, tingling, low iron, fatigue and there are many others. Don’t believe it when they say the tests are fine, always get a print out with the ranges (in brackets) post on here and you will get very helpful responses. I hope you get a diagnosis and can then get back to rights. ☘️🍀☘️
