Does anyone on here with thyroid issues suffer with labrynthitis? I’ve just suffered another nasty bout that’s lasted over 24 hours. I just wondered whether there is a link between the two.

Labrynthitis
Hi Kimkat
Years before I was diagnosed I used to suffer from bouts of labrynthitis, but mine lasted for much longer than 24 hours. I once went and had an Epley manoeuvre performed by a physio which cured it and I was shown some exercises ( Brandt -Daroff ) that I could do regularly to stave off further attacks.A nurse at the time did ask me if I had thyroid problems so I'm assuming that she wa a more enlightened member of the medical profession !
I think dehydration can also lead to short term attacks of labrynthitis so I always make sure I'm well hydrated especially now the weather has taken a turn for the better.
Often labrynthistis is caused by a slight thickening of the fluid in the middle ear canals and there is a build up of crystals which become out of position , when the epley manoeuvre is performed it repositions these crystals , to prevent then going back into the wrong position you have to sleep in a semi upright position for a few days following the manoeuvre . The Brandt -Daroff exercises work in the same way but they are not as fast acting, but they do act a s a preventative measure going forward.
I rarely get attacks now as I am optimally treated for my under active thyroid problem.
Good luck getting sorted out.
I’m pretty well hydrated tbh, woke up yesterday morning absolutely fine, got ready for the gym and as I was about to walk out of the door, everything started spinning and that was that. I threw up about three times, also to run to the loo a few times which is difficult when you can’t focus. Spent all day in bed but it didn’t appear to subside until around 2 this morning, I’m up and about now but I feel as if it could start again at anytime. I have had a very light earache recently, not enough to trouble me but it’s there all the same, maybe it’s that, thanks for your post.
I have had labrynthitis long before I was diagnosed as being hypothyroid.
It is extremely unpleasant but I recovered. I did have another bout about 2 years ago and it was severe but thankfully short-lived and the tablets GP prescribed helped reduce symptoms till they resolved.
My last episode was in December when I got some new tablets as my last lot were a few years out of date. I first started with it over 25 years ago and I seemed to get them regularly over a period of a few months, then all of a sudden they stopped and I had a bout around every couple of years but I had warning signs so I could pop a tablet and avoid a day in bed but this one caught me unawares.
