Does anybody take multivitamins with their levothyroxine?

Just started taking multivitamins in the morning with my levo because due to being a fussy eater, i'm not getting what my body needs. Just wondering if I should be taking them incase it interferes with my levothyroxine

Hi Jodes

If your multivitamin contains iron, don't take it at the same time as your Levo as iron interferes with the absorption of Levo. Hopefully more experienced people will comment for you but as far as I believe, a multivitamin can only help you feel better

my doctor said that about the iron too so I'm going to work out suitable times for both. Thanks a lot

As well as iron, numerous other substances interact with levothyroxine. I take the "better safe than sorry" view that we should do our best to avoid taking anything (other than water) near our levothyroxine - we keep seeing heightened recognition of the possibility of interference so cannot be sure that anything is OK at the same time.

I take prenatal vitamins as well as Levothyroxine, but I take my Levo in the morning, first thing and my vitamin in the evening after I've eaten dinner. That way the iron shouldn't interfere with the Levo.

Be carefully taking multivitamins with iodine, they can make you a bit hyper.

Hi It is important to take the best multivit and mineral with thyroid disease, also fish oils. It is the minerals that are vital. You have to compare as all different. i use Healthspan, WEB.This does not exclude the other things that should be tested as only contain small amounts.

I have been told not to take anything other than water for at least one hour before or after taking Levothyroxine. I have 'trained' myself to wake at about four in the morning, quick loo visit, Levothyroxine and water, and back to sleep. Seems to work for me!

Reading this I'm worried that maybe taking my levothxyrone before bed maybe the wrong time as it seems people are taking theirs in the morning.. Can someone clear this up.. Regards

I and many others take ours at bed-time, and always have done. It is a perfectly reasonable option with some scientific research behind it.
