Just found this by accident!

A HIP-SWINGING hula hooper has raised hundreds of pounds for the charity she works for after completing a Captain Tom inspired challenge.

Louise Hickey, of Clacton, is the secretary to the CEO of Thyroid UK, a national charity which is based in St Osyth.

The organisation is dedicated to supporting people with thyroid disease and related disorders which can result in weight gain, depression, and heart problems.

With a view of raising £200 for the charity Louise tackled 100 minutes of hula hooping, which she confidently completed while drinking tea and dancing at the same time.

The charity worker’s challenge was inspired by Captain Tom Moore, who famously walked 100 lengths of his garden for the NHS.

Louise’s efforts ended up generating £366 for Thyroid UK, which will now be used to help more people suffering from the chronic condition.

The 42-year-old said: "I started working for Thyroid UK in February of this year and we heard about Captain Tom's 100 challenge.

"I was inspired and wanted to do something to help Thyroid UK.

"It feels great to have smashed my target and am very grateful to everyone who donated and supported me - it was a tough challenge."

Why weren't we told they were doing this challenge or did I miss it?

It was just seeing it in the press that was entirely new to me. :-)

I didn't see it and it was a surprise too. Maybe next time we should post anything like before and after so that we're prepared. I am sure we can still add to the pot. :)

Well done Louise.

Is there any footage of the action? It would be fun to do a mass hula hoop in the future to raise funds - mind you I’d be lucky to manage 10 seconds of it!

Good morning ;

I found the post on here, and able to donate prior to the Hula Hoop Hundred but it did seem

" lost " on a very busy day and quickly rolled off the screen and not aware " bumped up " :

Yes, we can all still chip in and just think if 10% of the 117 K members donated ten pounds :

Thyroid uk is such a worthy cause - we all joined - as we all needed support and we get

help and advice to equip us better to turn things around for ourselves and it's only fair to

give back support for the better of Thyroid uk and everybody else lost in the misdiagnosis

and mismanagement of thyroid health conditions.

I was so surprised at happening across the story, I failed to add that - of course, VERY well done Louise - thank you.

Funnily enough I only checked TUKs news page yesterday and it's not on there (just checked again in case I missed it). thyroiduk.org/news/ lynmynott
