I don’t have personal knowledge or experience but have saved a couple of comments from other posts:

Avoiding antibiotics

Ask your gp for the antiviral drugs. All we have ever been told is that antibiotics don't work on viruses, but they never mention antiviral drugs, they don't offer them

. You have to ask for them. And I think anyone with autoimmune diseases should be offered them when they have a virus.

antibiotics- no matter what time of day you take them - will likely leave you struggling to absorb thyroid meds towards the end of the course. I am working very hard to get my gut bacteria to some kind of sensible level and have been incredibly hypo since I finished the antibiotics. So annoying.

I believe this is because a good proportion of conversion from FT4 to FT3 happens in the gut in the presence of particular bacteria. So when it’s wiped out with the antibiotics, conversion is quite significantly impacted and we get a low. Realistically it’s totally unavoidable when taking them.

I had to take a 2wk course of antibiotics back in October and I’ve been out of whack thyroid and adrenal wise since. They really do wreak havoc!

Have you taken any steps to reintroduce good bacteria? Things like probiotics, kefir, other fermented foods? The antibiotics will have wiped out all of the good guys as well as the bad, and you will need to deliberately cultivate them again.

Excellent! Think that’s about all we can do really, aside from trying to avoid them where we can. Unfortunately just an inevitability!
