There is a big percentage difference, does that mean I should do additional testing?
Are these results okay?
I have been feeling bad for a long time, as my GP did some tests for me a year ago but said the results were NORMAL. I don't know what to do next, what do you think? Shouldn't the% FT4 level be higher?
OK, so a normal healthy person would have a TSH of usually no more than 2, often around 1, with FT4 around mid-range-ish.That is a generalisation because, of course, none of us are tested for a baseline in health.
Your TSH is a smidgen higher than that but it depends on the time of day you did the test and whether or not you had anything to eat beforehand and any caffeine containing drinks. TSH is highest early morning and lowers throughout the day, certain foods can affect TSH and caffein containing drinks do.
Your FT4 is just about around the "normal" level.
Your FT3 is near the top of the range so you are converting T4 (the storage hormone) into T3 (the active hormone that every cell in our bodies need) very well.
Certain nutrient deficiencies have symptoms that overlap with symptoms of hypothyroidism. It would be a good idea to test
Vit D
B12
Folate
Ferritin
and to complete the thyroid panel it would be wise to test thyroid antibodies.
