Hi. I’ve been taking thyroid s for a week now. I sourced it from Thailand. It doesn’t seem to be doing anything. In fact I feel worse. Is there a chance it’s fake? Has this happened to anyone else? Could someone please message me with a supplier? Also thanks to everyone that always posts. I’m only newly hypothyroid and reading everything really helps. 😄
Thyroid s: Hi. I’ve been taking thyroid s for a... - Thyroid UK
Thyroid s
Hi there,I have just seen your post and I suspect the Thyroid S may not be working/ the last batch I think could be duds. I have just had my TSH tested and it 14 after taking 2.5/3 grains a day so that cannot be right. I have now started with Levothyroxine as I do not trust the Thai source - they had issues with diseases in pigs too so all these things do not bode well for proper NDT.
Hello Pjwhites and welcome to the forum :
What thyroid hormone replacement and dose were you taking previously, what is your diagnosis, are you with a thyroid AI disease :
If you were taking T4 - Levothyroxine before this takes around 6-8 to totally leave your body.
Did you take bench mark T3 and T4 numbers before switching to NDT ?
Are you minoring your blood pressure and temperature daily ?
Are your ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D optimal ?
With NDT you dose to the relief of symptoms and not a blood test result:
Generally you start with 1/4 or a 1/2 of a grain and slowly work up every 7-10 days with an additional 1.4 grain and if you get to 2 grains you then hold this dose for 6-8 weeks and then take a blood test to check against the bench mark numbers.
The TSH will now be low suppressed - this is ok ;
The T4 maybe much lower than previously but if you feel ok - this is ok too :
The T3 however should a higher number than previously and if it isn't this may not be the best thyroid hormone replacement for you to be taking:
If you are ok with your T3 level and still with symptoms just slowly continue to build up with 1/4 grain increments:
There will be a week, when you may feel not so good, a bit edgy, nervous, just drop back down to the previous dose and this is your dose on NDT at this point in time.
I'm with Graves post RAI thyroid ablation in 2005 and dealing with lingering Graves, thyroid eye disease and hypothyroidism.
I take 1 + 1/2 grains and this is now my third year on this relatively small dose :
My temperature has rose from 35.5 to 36.6 - my blood pressure remained stable throughout and my T3 and T4 numbers have literally switched places as now my T3 is at around 100% and my T4 at 25% - and I just have a yearly blood test more to monitor my vitamin and minerals than anything else.
With NDT you go low and slow - remember the tortoise and the hare.
Hi pennyannie, thanks for your detailed reply. I’m self medicating to be honest. Had chronic fatigue for 12 months. Gps are worse than useless. My thyroid numbers are all low in range. No antibodies. But gp doesn’t want to know. Over the past year I’ve done nothing but test and supplement different things to feel exactly the same. I was taking metavive for last 4-5 months but didn’t really get on with it so thought I’d try thyroid s. I’ve only been taking for just over a week so prob need to be more patient. I’ve taken 3.5 today though and nothing. Temp is always under 36. That’s why I thought they could be duds. I’ve also got low cortisol so I know that’s part of the problem too. Again gp doesn’t want to know. All my vitamins are at a very good level.
Thanks 😀
I am not aware of any negative feedback on the new formulated Thyroid S :
It has been trialled by people and blood tests and feedback are all positive.
I think you are increasing much too quickly - 3.5 grains after a week is not sensible :
Is there a batch number and expiry date on the box ?
Was the company you purchased from recommended to you by a trusted source ?
Yeah I thought I’m really going too quickly. I’ve been constantly monitoring temp and blood pressure. Would expect to feel hyper if I over did it. Anything but to be honest.
Scrumbler messaged me about the supplier and she uses the same so I’m sure it’s fine. Also good to hear there’s been no negative feedback.
Think I’ll drop back a little and give it a couple more weeks.
Thanks very much !
Keep going, it takes time. I know it is frustrating, and there is always a worry that the drugs may be fake, as one lot of mine were (not Thyroid S!). Try not to think about it, just keep going and in the not so distant future you will wake up one morning and not feel half dead. It is such a wonderful feeling when you get out of bed and not think of the next time you can possibly have a nap! Hug.
Hi
Are you chewing the tablets or swallowing them whole? Chewing the tablets made me unwell.
Overall i am doing well on Thyroid-S, as confirmed by my recent bloodwork. I can vouch for it 👍🏼
