I’m new with tinnitus

Hello. So I’m currently in the process of dealing with an overactive thyroid. Had a number of blood tests in December, was put on Carbimazole, which I had an allergic reaction to. Now on PTU, originally 300mg a day, now 150mg as of 2 weeks ago. Saw the endo last week, who is fairly sure it’s Graves. I’ve got the antibodies tests in 5 weeks time.

Now for the last 3 weeks I’ve had tinnitus in my left ear, which is pretty irritating considering the PTU dosage was reduced 2 weeks ago. I’m not taking any vitamin supplements or anything like that.

I know I’m going to get replies telling me about posting test results, but specifically what results do you advise to post? I’m still not sure I fully understand all the terminology or blood test documents!

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Hello Jon-R,Thank you for posting.

I'm only new to hyper thyroid myself. I began experiencing symptoms in December but didn't get worried and tested till January. I woke up on the 1st of January with tinnitus in my right 👂 or so it seems to me, may be it's both. It's been with me since. I asked about it 3 different GPs. Nobody seems to know what's it from or about. Endocrinologist didnt answer either just concluded ' Oh , it's all( tinnitus, puffy eyes, etc) the result of hyperthyroid and hopefully will go away as the problem gets sorted. '( if at all).

The first 2-3 weeks of having tinnitus I was going very frustrated. I miss silence. Then I was trying different exercises for it on YouTube. I wasnt persistent with them.

Im on 40 mg carbimazole since January.

Ive no advice to offer you. But I know the feeling of discomfort from it and I wish you well. Hope other members will have some helpful input.

Best wishes of health!!!

Hello tromashka

Thanks for responding. Appreciate 👂 usage too 😀

Does the tinnitus vary at all? I really only notice it during quiet periods.

That was a similar response I got from the Endo too.

Wish you well

Hi again. Re: does it vary. At some point it felt it improved but then got back to its horrible constant high pitched never-ending noise. Yes it's much more noticeable when there are no surrounding noise. Mentally my brain has been learning to ignore it.But at times of stress or when tired it's worse. So I would fall asleep to YouTube videos of ocean sounds or sound baths or meditation tracks just to keep my sanity. Also taking magnesium supplement in the evening, lavender or valerian teas, doing restorative yoga. Anything that calms down the nervous system. Hope it'll improve for you.

Hello Jon-RI am diagnosed Hyperthyroid. I do not have Graves I have nodules.

I’m two years in and on a low dose of Carbimazole.

On November 4th this year I went for a walk and came home with a ringing in my left ear.

It is still there. Tone varies according to time of day, stress etc.

I am trying yoga, cranial osteopathy, Magnesium foot cream. I’m also trying a steroid nose spray and an Otovent as my ear won’t pop.

I hope yours goes away soon.

Good wishes.
