Hi all, I have seen a couple of people I follow on Instagram be invited for the covid vaccine in the tier 6 category of adults age 16-64 with underlying health conditions. Now normally I am not one to try and analyse who is in what category, it’s none of my business. But when other people have quizzed, they have said that they have been invited due to having autoimmune thyroid disease?!?! I can find no where that puts us in category 6, but as I’ve seen two different accounts of this now I wondered if anyone knows if they are correct?
I just want to say I don’t begrudge anyone the vaccine! I was just under the impression that thyroid disease didn’t place us at any greater risk from covid.

personally , i'd take it with a pinch of salt unless you know they actually received one. My oh has twice been sent a txt inviting him to book an appointment , and twice been sent away with a flea in his ear cos he's "not on the list".. i think this new combined risk algorithm they are using has thrown up quite a few anomalies... like the report the other day of a 30 yr old who they thought was only 6.2 centimetres tall (and therefore obese) because the person inputting the data didn't understand that 6.2 actually meant 6 foot 2 inches.
She has actually had the jab! She posted a lot on Instagram about how her autoimmune thyroid disease had made her in this category and she has quite a large following and so I was just annoyed if it was an admin error and she was spreading misinformation about thyroid disease. She does also have coeliac disease but I can’t find this on any lists either. She says she isn’t medicated for hashimotos as she manages to control with her excellent diet I believe 🤦🏼♀️
that's nice for her... surprised she's not making a fortune promoting celery juice to 'regrow' thyroid glands too then
But even if it's true about getting the vaccine, the combined risk thing now makes it impossible to know what 's been taken into account to generate the invite.
There is, as with so much relating to health, a lack of clarity because the information for England is headlined, and that for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales sidelined.
I have not checked the other three nations but, in general, they have advice similarly to England.
The current status for England is summarised here:
Exactly what I found on my travels around the net ☺️ as I’ve said, absolutely no problem with anyone and everyone getting the vaccine as soon as they possibly can, but the lack of clarity is baffling with people getting it without even knowing why! Ah well...
I suspect some combination of mistakes due to imperfect records or incorrect computerised selection criteria, people not realising the other issues that might have contributed to their getting a vaccination, etc.
Yes I expect you’re right. My line of thinking is that if you are unsure as to why you’ve been invited, you probably shouldn’t have been! But I don’t want to get too caught up in it because the aim is to get all of us vaccinated eventually anyway and I don’t like to contribute to people making judgements on others getting it despite them looking well. I think we all know how hard it is to have an invisible illness so don’t want to make those kind of judgements. But as I have thyroid disease...I just had to ask 😊
I think this post, while of relevance initially, has run its course, had some discussions and information, but anything more is unlikely to be relevant.
Hence, will close to further replies.
