I know there are people from all over the world here. Is there anybody from the Republic of Ireland? I'm looking for the information on doing my blood tests privately in Munster. My GPs dismiss my pleads to test my thyroid antibodies.
Id appreciate your help.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3
plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested for Hashimoto’s
TSI or Trab antibodies for Graves
Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, with Hashimoto’s and Graves
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
Yes I live in the west coast of Ireland, my doctor is very good but I know there is a doctor in Maynooth that gives prescriptions for NDT and does the tests, I will look for his number for you x
Thank you for your response. Im just struggling with my GP taking bloods for the thyroid antibodies they say they've never heard of any other than TPO... So im looking for private options. Wonder if they exist at all. I'm dealing with hyper thyper thyroid .
Dr Neville Wilson, Maynooth clinic, heard great reports. Normally only an endocrinologist will do the specialised tests, luckily for me my endocrinologist did the tests for me after a lot of discussion and seeing photos of me before I put myself on ndt.
I get the impression (in England at least) that only Endocrinologist's order the Graves antibody TRab test , GP's only seem to do the TPOab (or sometimes TGab). I don't know if this is because they are not 'allowed' to , or just that it's seen as 'the Endo's job'.
You would think that under current circumstances it would be sensible for GP's to be able to order it instead of waiting for an Endo appointment ... but this is just so you know that Gp's don't usually order the TRab (Thyroid stimulating hormone Receptor antibody) test.
Thank you for your kind response. My GP insists she's never heard of any other AB tests other than TPO( may be because they are not allowed to go further by protocol - thats my conclusion). She just makes implications that I read into it too much and get overstressed as the result of googling some unreliable sites. Ah, well. She believes it is up to the endo only to test for those and then admits that the waiting list to see an endo privately is up to 6 months ( due to current situation) .... God knows how long the public queue is... A few of friends have been waiting for over a year and got their longwaited appointments cancelled without any rescheduling...So yes, vicious circle. Deep breaths...
