Hello all. As a hypothyroid patient that t4 hasn't really worked, my endocrinologist agreed for me to add t3. He prescribed 20mg split inyo two doses. I don't if my body is unusual but although the t3 is definetely improving my hypo symptoms, it is also giving me horrific insomnia. I tried lowering the dose to 5mg twice per day but that didn't really help my hypo symptoms. I know t3 has a short life but it seems not to be the case with me. My last dose is taken no later than 2pm. Am I doing something wrong? It there a timed release t3 version that might help? All replies greatly appreciated.
T3 insomnia: Hello all. As a hypothyroid patient... - Thyroid UK
T3 insomnia
Many, many people find taking 5mcg T3 at bedtime improves sleep
However that’s not true for everyone
What were Ft4 and Ft3 results from BEFORE starting on T3
When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
Have you done cortisol and DHEA saliva test to see if diurnal rhythm or levels of cortisol is abnormal

I had a cortisol test done a couple of years ago at hospital and they said it was normal. My ferritin, folate and b12 were all ok in my laxt blood test a couple of months ago. My t4 was slightly low I have been told and my t3 mid range. I take a multi vitamin, selenium, zinc, vitamin d and sometimes magnesium I also take Ashwagandaha.

On just levothyroxine Ft4 should be at TOP of range
On levothyroxine plus T3, many people find they need Ft4 at least 60% through range as well as good Ft3
What were actual results and ranges on ferritin , folate and B12
Vitamin D too
Multivitamins are never recommended on here
And Ashwagandaha may be messing with adrenals to your disadvantage. Need to test
Cortisol test
Best for daily rhythm is Regenerus cortisol and DHEA test
Yes I had this issue too, I only tried about 2.5mcg of Thybon Henning and I could not sleep at all. It was a horrific so I gave up on it after 10 completely sleepless nights. Tried it again a few years later and the insomnia was gone but I ended up with lovely nausea. If it only it worked for me.
Which exact type/brand are you taking? I keep thinking it may have something to do with it being Liothyronine Hydrochloride (Thybon Henning) and not Liothyronine Sodium which I've never had the chance to try and is in most brands of T3.
