Virtually any brand of multi vits for Thyroid support has 200 mcg (round 100% NRV) iodine. Surely not advisable with Hashimotos/hypo? ( according to isabella wents for sure)
Does anyone take Pure Encapsulations Thyroid support; Viridian Thyroid complex, Thorne Thyroid Cofactors?
I'm on a normal AIP diet (more or less), eat fish regularly, wonder if should steer clear of iodine? never did any iodine tests.
Thanks health to all

There's a lot if disagreement over whether taking iodine is good for hypothyroid sufferers or not, necessary or not. I've heard of people with hashi's purposefully taking very large doses of supplemental iodine and proclaiming to be doing well and many others who say they feel ill if they take any.
I was told by a FMD to take kelp, 3 x daily. I queried it but he said some is necessary. I think my symptoms get aggravated if I take any, so I don't, but I haven't been consistent in measuring my reaction or taking it regularly and am rethinking it.
If you eat a lot of fish you are likely getting enough, and I'd take vitamins separately and not in a multi vit.
Generally it's advised not to take iodine if you are hypothyroid, this is because iodine solution used to be used to treat hypERthyroidism before the current treatment of radioactive iodine. So it could make things worse.
However, because some hypothyroidism is due to iodine deficiency (not all that likely in the UK because we should get sufficient from a normal diet that includes milk, yogurt, cod, haddock, etc) when one is considering supplementing with iodine it makes sense to first test for iodine deficiency, and the best test for this is a non-loading iodine urine test which can be obtained from Genova Diagnostics. Not a loading test where you take iodine beforehand, and not an iodine skin patch test (that one has been completely debunked).
As for multivitamins, these are not recommended as they tend to contain too little of anything to help low levels or deficiencies, they often use the cheapest and least absorbable of active ingredients, and usually contain things we should test for before supplementing, eg calcium, Vit D, iodine, iron. If they contain iron then that affects absorption of the other ingredients because iron should be taken 2 hours away from any other supplements.
