Nature-Throid to Erfa - side effects?

I came back to my Endo to get a repeat prescription of Nature-Throid in November, to find that it is not available at the moment, I hadn't been aware there was an issue. I had to then go straight into taking Erfa (I could have taken Armour but found it was becoming v expensive a few years ago). I have been on N-T for about 5 years, very happily.

I do not know if this is a side effect - but I am just so down at the moment. I know the pandemic/lockdown etc could be contributing, but it is just not my usual state of mind but I have spent the last month feeling REALLY low. This past 2 weeks I've cried daily! I can't shake it.

I have just checked with the Pharmacy and there is still no sign of N-T coming back as yet... such a shame when you find something that works seamlessly...

I alternate 2 grains/1.5 grains, and had the same dose previously of N-T.

Anyone had this as a side effect?

That sounds rough! I think the sudden change might well be responsible for the shift in emotional temperament and the feeling down. It might be that you need to reduce your dose of Erfa initially to allow your body time to acclimatise to the change. A pp in another thread alluded to it being a bit stronger than NT.

Just as with switching different brands of levo, switching brands of ndt might cause a temporary upset. On the other hand it might be that Erfa simply does not agree with you. It might be worth getting your bloods tested to see if there's been a change for better or worse in your thyroid hormone levels x

When ERFA was changed, it simply made me like a Zombie for most of the day. I improved when I moved to Thiroid,. Like you say, it's awful when you find something that works, and then it is taken away.

Is Thiroid another brand of NDT ? I have not heard of it. The only alternative I was given to Erfa was Armour. I did use that at the start of my NDT journey, but actually came off it as it was becoming so expensive.

I’m in a similar boat! Very happily on Naturethroid for years and now can’t get it. I’ve been taking Armour for a few days and some of my old symptoms have come back. Not sure what to do now 😰
