I just make this post which isn't groundbreaking, which shows that giving iodine to pregnant women with a degree of iodine insufficiency improves their personal iodine level but has no effect on the foetus. Unsurprising, because the foetus takes what it needs from the mother, regardless of whether the mother's metabolism is optimal or not. In such cases the mother suffers at the "hands" of the growing baby.
