Iodine supplementation doesn't affect foetal outcome.

I just make this post which isn't groundbreaking, which shows that giving iodine to pregnant women with a degree of iodine insufficiency improves their personal iodine level but has no effect on the foetus. Unsurprising, because the foetus takes what it needs from the mother, regardless of whether the mother's metabolism is optimal or not. In such cases the mother suffers at the "hands" of the growing baby.

Assuming a breastfed baby, does this continue through to weaning? Or does the baby's iodine level drop as it cannot get enough in the milk from the iodine deficient mother?

To be clear, I'm not so much expecting or hoping for an answer as asking the obvious next question.

Boots bf and pregnancy tablets include iodine.

I know someone who has been researching iodine status in pregnant women and younger women, it’s a big issue.

Over dosing on iodine when breastfeeding can affect the baby’s thyroid status.

Considering post partum thyroiditis is an issue it’s something that should be looked at carefully.
