Hi I've recently had my bloods taken and just seen on a post that your not to eat or take tablet before bloods being done but I wasn't told to do this so I did! šŸ˜ my bloods come back as good and advised to remain on the 100mg i was put on til next bloods in June does this mean my bloods could be wrong? Pls advise as new to this! ThanksĀ

Do you have the results, SonSwinburne? If so, do please post them here for comment. We should still be able to take a stab at providing assurance on whether you're on the right dose or not.

Your bloods won't be "wrong", they just might not be the best results for you.

If you had had the tests done under different conditions you might have been told to lower your meds, or might have been given a rise in meds. It is far more common for hypothyroid people to feel under-medicated than over-medicated, so the recommendations given on this forum are designed to (hopefully) give you the highest TSH and the lowest Free T4 possible in the hope of getting more meds, or at the very least not getting your current dose reduced.

Getting tested as early in the day as possible gives you the highest TSH possible during standard working hours.

^^ Look at the graphs on page 2.

Getting tested while fasting is also intended to give the highest TSH possible.

thyroid.about.com/od/gettes...

SmallBlueThing gave me this link earlier today :

books.google.co.uk/books?id...

which mentions that people should fast for 6 - 8 hours before the blood draw. This was new info to me today.

And the final thing is that people shouldn't take their levo for 24 hours before testing because it will dramatically raise their Free T4 levels for a few hours after ingestion and that could make some doctors very twitchy if they actually bother to test the Free T4.
