NDT
Which brand of NDT
Levothyroxine may be better than nothing
You may get prescription from private endocrinologist but obviously unlikely to get appointment before New Year
The fact is that few doctors will prescribe NDT, and this is due to the fact that the BTA withdrew this replacement hormone - safely used since 1892 and without blood tests - and lives were saved from then on and it still does today.
They made a heartless decision to withdrew it by makng False Statements to enable the withdrawal of this this valuable thyroid hormone replacement (valuable not in money but removing clinical symptoms and restoring health).
The BTA et al removed NDT - despite its long successful life from 1892 onwards.
I think they did this out of some sort of spite, because levothyroxine being much cheaper saved money whilst leaving patients suffering or being given additional prescriptions, maybe of antidepressants etc.
The professionals did not take into account of the patient's well-being at all.
They also had removed T3 also but now you have to take up an Endocrinologist's time to try to get a prescription and few Endos will now prescribe it anyway.
So, many people who are hypothyroid have lost their faith in the Organisation who should be putting the patients first and not their own personal opinions.
p.s. if you are in Scotland the government made a decision that those who weren't improving on levo could ask GP to prescribe options i.e. NDT or T3/T4.
Taking synthetic is better than nothing. It might be worthwhile to talk with <doctor details removed by Admin> and register with his practice to get a private prescription for NDT.
