The ABC of Disease book by Philip Day

Has anyone read the above book and especially his section on thyroid disease? He recommends, for hypo, taking Lugo's Iodine (self medicating before having to resort to thyroxine) - has anyone tried this? His advice on diet & supplements is also very helpful.

Interestingly, he refers to the book called Thyroid Power where the authors comment on the mind/body connection with hypo.

"It is possible for severe stress alone to be a trigger. .....stress can affect immune function."

I am sure this COVID year has had a massive affect on my health what with isolation, lockdown, lack of social contact and sense of purpose/direction. Can anyone else relate to this?

Any comments welcome on above. Thanks

Having never heard of the book before, at least not that I remember, I had a look around and the first review on Amazon says:

Geordie Girl

1.0 out of 5 stars No credibility, a book to give away.

Although I am a huge advocate of natural medicine, unfortunately my views of this book have been coloured by the utter rot Philip Day posts in his Credence Health Facebook group. This knocks any credibility I once thought he had, particularly given the dubious sources he uses. There are better books with well researched, and more quality sourced material. This is one for the charity shop.

smile.amazon.co.uk/ABCS-DIS...

Yes, there are then some more positive reviews. (But I hope that person doesn't actually donate it to a charity shop for someone else to pick it up!)

Philip Day has promoted some extremely unreliable, questionable, potentially harmful things, such as:

Research since has proven that, just as with scurvy, pellagra, beriberi and pernicious anemia, when this missing dietary element (Vitamin B17) is reintroduced, it becomes almost impossible for that person to contract cancer.

(I'm not including a link because I do not wish to appear to promote this.)

This approach is blaming the patient. You didn't take this substance, therefore it is YOUR FAULT you got cancer.

He is a sales and marketing person. Not a scientist. Not a medically trained person. Not a herbalist.

Thanks for your honest reply. A friend recommended it so I wanted to check it out, because she is an ardent follower of his work etc. Much appreciated. :-)

Thank you for your reply!

I do believe stress is an important factor. Trouble is, if we have lived lives of emotional stress, it is extremely difficult to remove that stress. And, if that stress has already had its impact, what then?

Iodine is a perpetual topic, and understandably so.

In a large part of the world, most thyroid issues are due to iodine deficiency. But that tends not to be the case in Europe and the USA (and some other countries). In large part, because many of the countries use iodised salt or are coastal and consume significant amounts of seafood (animal and vegetable).

The general opinion here is that if you are considering any iodine, first get a non-loading urinary iodine test to see where you are right now. Both insufficient and excess iodine can be factors in thyroid disease.

There is no doubt that wading in and supplementing large doses of iodine, whether as Lugol's or any other form, can cause thyroid disease, in some cases. A number of members regret their decisions to use iodine. Some have suffered from the iodine present in medical interventions such as contrast medium for X-rays/CT scans, or amiodarone treatment.

Don't think iodine is recommended for hypothyroidism.

This totally resonates 🙌 yes couldn’t have put it better myself ! But before I complain 😂 I will say I feel blessed for having a roof over my head , my family and other people out there willing to listen . I pray every night for everyone stuck in a hard way right now , May their worry’s and struggles be lifted . It’s been a rough year for everyone . This has actually been the first time in three years I have started to feel better physically and mentally not yet back to my old self but the closes I have felt to it in three years ! After fighting for answers and help with this thyroid journey I have been on . In the beginning of this pandemic ,I was just starting to get back to my old self . After two years of a bad depression ,anxiety ,palpitations , rashes, aches and pains , joints killing me , my hair was falling out , I mean I could go on ! Lol 😂, i also feel stuck in limbo not quite sure what direction to go ! I just want to hit the ground running and not stop lol ! I am trying to keep my head up and keep it moving in the most positive way I can ... and it is not easy . the anxiety through this whole year has been unreal. I am Trying so hard to keep myself feeling healthy after kicking screaming and clawing my way to finally start to feel better ! I am a Lil exhausted not gonna lie 😂🤣😂 and bored apparently 😂😂. I will say tho this world pause has really taught me a lot and had me really self reflect ... it’s taught me how much we take for granted everyday , it’s taught me to be more understanding ,accepting ,loving , it’s taught me that there are still good people in the world who want to help each other , to be more humble , to really pause and see that even in the hardest times the lil things we take for granted are the most important and we are blessed in so many other ways ! Even if we don’t always see it !🙌🙏👼
