Help interpreting results 😞

Hi guys,

Hopefully someone may be able to help. I had a thyroid test done the past week and been trying to get my head around results. I have Cushing's disease which is in remission, I also suffer from low testosterone which I supplement and have diabetes insipidus. I had the left half of my pituitary gland removed about 5 years ago due to the cushings. I have no appetite and haven't for a very long time, I am over weight but dont lose nor put on weight, I sometimes get a puffy feeling face which I always put down to the cushings. I take vitamin d and b12 supplements. Blood was taken 10am. Sorry if I'm missing out important information. Any help would be much appreciated πŸ™‚

Welcome to the forum

You don't say if you are currently on thyroid meds - I assume you are - or (most important) how you are feeling, other than weight/appetite/puffy face.

Assuming you are on thyroid meds, and not feeling tip-top, you might like to add a bit more levo. TSH is nice and low but free T4 is only 32% through range. Free T3 is better at 68% through range - which means you convert beautifully, which is good :)

You will probably feel better if you can get both "frees" up to 2/3 or higher through range - and personally I can only lose weight when both frees are nice and high. Good luck x

Your cortisol is on the low side, are you still on Hydrocortisone/Prednisilone & is so was the test done with you off steroids for at lest 12 hours? As you had a pituitary tumour then ignore the TSH as it is a pituitary hormone so it's T4 that needs to be taken into account & at 15.2 is spot on, they like the T4 to be in the middle teens. I had Cushing's due to a pituitary tumour 5 years a go & am still steroid dependent as my pituitary gland never "woke" up. If you are Facebook then there is a group called Cushing's UK for people who are testing for Cushing's, waiting for treatment or in remission, do come & join us as we can support each other for this horrible rare condition. facebook.com/groups/2207009...

The lab's reference range is under 480, so your result of 80 is well under the reference range which is a good result.

Your B12 is very low, especially as you say you take B12 supplements, it’s EXTREMELY low

What B12 supplements are you taking

Have you been tested for Pernicious Anaemia

Whatever supplement you are taking for b12 is NOT working. Try a liquid b12 it works much faster. Pills go in one end and out the other if you ask me. Your b12 is way too low.

Hi Nick, Im not sure how long and how much prednisone you were on but large amounts of prednisone over a long course of time can interfere with B12 absorption.

Hi Nick, another reason for poor B vitamin absorption is low stomach acid, its very common also your ferretin is low too, needs to be mid range, which could be low iron intake, low stomach acid, or lacking vitamins B2 or C. The puffy face if its lower part in the cheeks and chin, it indicates low Biotin/B7 its a sign of it, its known as Biotin face look up pictures on Google... Your morning cortisol looks low, I'm guessing because of the cushings, but rising morning cortisol is what wakes us up naturally, don't know if that's of help to any fatigue, along with other low nutrients as mentioned.

If you want to raise your stomach acid, you can do that with BetaineHCL with peosin and suggest a digestive enzymes supplement too

Hope that helps
