Yes there is a new supplier of NDT very reliable and not overly expensive. Comes from Singapore with no customs charges. I take it I shouldn't name source on here? PM me and I will send link. This is not a product like metavive it has certified T4 and T3 and is available in both types x
Comes from Singapore with no customs charges.
The current low value consignment exemption rules, which mean goods valued less than £15 do not get charged VAT, will disappear at the turn of the year - less than two months away. We are close enough, especially with international transport massively disrupted, that some things ordered now might not arrive before 2021.
From then on, ALL goods will be liable to VAT. Unless VAT has been pre-paid we can anticipate VAT and customs clearance charges on every single thing we order from the rest of the world. (Although there have been a few pre-pay schemes, I cannot at present think of a single one that is active.)
The amount of VAT will depend on assessment of value.
At the moment they send with invoice under value and larger orders sent in individual parcels not to go over limit😊
When HMRC are checking EVERY package, I suspect misdeclaration rates might rise. And the customs clearance charge will apply to EVERY packet/parcel unless VAT is pre-paid and that information is properly presented on the packaging. So we will end up paying £11 (I have read) regardless of VAT owing.
Misdeclaration is an offence.
If, for example, someone asked a person or company to mis-declare a value when sending something to them, it might be regarded as an illegal act under UK law. If the person or company does it without reference to that someone, that is, of course, a separate issue altogether.
Whilst i appreciate the seriousness of your point (and i agree , don''t mess with the Tax man, he'll win ), i'm impressed with your confidence that HMRC will be checking every package . Last time i was interested enough to pay attention to a parliamentary select committee, the whole country's customs checks relied on about 25 sniffer dogs, and even if they have now managed to recruit enough extra customs officers to check everything i fear most of them will be unable to get to work. through all the lorries that cant get into the port.
Difference is, there will be no "under the limit" exemption.
Therefore, though it might not literally be every parcel, but I'd expect it to be every parcel that does go through checks ending up with a demand for something. Even if the value is genuinely one penny you will get charged £11 (possibly more) for the customs clearance.
The government needs money. Might be an all-too-easy and attractive source of extra income.
I just want to thank everyone who replied and all your info is very helpful!
