I have lost my hair, eyebrows and lashes due to hypothyroidism.

I am taking biotin and collagen to help. Someone recommended Evening Primrose Oil.

I would like to know if it is safe to take it

Oh you poor thing - I had the same - I lost 3/4 of my beautiful hair and my eyelashes - very odd sensation. Personally I wouldn't take Evening Primrose oil - that might be OK for someone who doesn't have a hypo condition - which goes with having a sluggish liver. To then add a large amount of fat that has to be metabolised could cause an issue with your gall bladder let alone your liver.

If it helps my hair grew back eventually and even nicer and my eyelashes. So hang on in there and don't lose hope.

What amount of medication are you on - and who is looking after your endo needs - can you let me know.

For this to happen you are seriously low on medication I would say but ...................when this happened to me it was because I was on Armour/ERFA which didn't agree with me - then I didn't realise I was taking T4 tablets and was lactose intolerant - I was doing some old medical papers out and saw a test that said I was intolerant way back in the 1980's - I then marched off to my GP and managed to get liquid thyroid hormone which is sugar free and then things improved - could this be your problem?

Hi Thank you for your reply

I am on 100mg Euthyrox.

I am seeing my GP tomorrow . He has been very helpful . Just says he can’t just put me on a high dosage straight away. Needs to do it gradually.

Agree - slowly does it. Good luck.

Actually too much is as bad as too little - and can cause hair loss etc. etc.

poshthinking01 just curious - did your hair improve on monotherapy with the liquid T4, or did you also need to add T3?

Yes liquid T3 did not agree with.

Sorry meant liquid T4

sorry bit confused - are you saying the liquid t4 did not agree with you and you did need to add T3 to see an improvement with your hair?

just wondering as it sounded initially like you were saying that simply switching from t4 tablets with lactose to liquid hormone (i assume t4 only) improved your hair thinning drastically, and i’d never imagined that changing T4 formulation alone could have such a big impact.

thanks!

HI if I can explain if you saw a photo of me then and now you would not recognise me - I could not understand why I was rushing to the loo as soon as i took the tablet - unbeknown to me the medication was going straight down the loo - so I was hardly getting any at all. When I switched to liquid I was obviously getting the right amount.

I took liquid and it helped my hair because when on tablets the T4 was not being absorbed due to lactose intolerance.

I look EPO last year to try to help with my PMDD. I was very under-medicated at the time on 100mcg levothyroxine and didn't realise. The EPO caused me to become suicidally depressed within a few days. It took me a couple of weeks to realise it was because of the EPO. When I stopped taking it, within 2 days I felt normal again. Just be careful if you notice your mood starting to change!
