Hi, a little help please? I have Hashimotos, and have had tolerable carpel tunnel for years. Things stepped up a few weeks ago and pretty sure it was cubital tunnel. Naproxen prescribed for the pain and discomfort and a full blood “MOT” done, but it’s come back pretty normal... Raised ESR, Serum C reactive protein level, and platelet count seems on the higher end? Does this indicate I need a bit of help with something or is it ok? I’ve felt better, should I ask for a specialist referral?
Thankyou.

CRP and ESR are inflammation markers so if they're raised there is inflammation somewhere, but the tests are non-specific so can't tell you where it is. It could be your Hashi's causing it.
Igennus Super B is good quality and cheap vitamin B complex. Contains folate. Full dose is two tablets per day. Many/most people may only need one tablet per day. Certainly only start on one per day (or even half tablet per day for first couple of weeks)
Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
With such low B12 result taking a B12 supplement and a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months, then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.
Suggest you get full thyroid testing and vitamin D test
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
Hi, Thankyou for your reply. I have lapsed with the gf and df diet of late, but am back on it now. I’ve not had a thorough thyroid test with medi checks in a year or so. The usual “full” nhs one was done back in Feb. I usually use medichecks for the ft3 etc if I need help convincing the gp to up my thyroxine. To be honest I was surprised not to see the t4 etc on these results today. My carpel tunnel usually flares up when my thyroxine needs adjusting, but I was “over medicated” on my last Feb test, so I’ve had to just grin and bare it. I was lucky the gp agreed not to lower the dose or it could be worse! The carpel tunnel needs addressing at some point though, so I will see what can be done about that.
I, too, had carpal tunnel syndrome many years ago. It was very painful but I was referred to a brilliant physio who cured it. I've had no problems since.
My advice is to ask for a referral to a Rheumatologist. I was suffering similarly and diagnosed with RA two years ago. Beware neglect of the raised indicators in your tests.
