Quitting T3

I’ve been on a form of synthroid for 40 years. My entire family has thyroid Illnesses. Now I’m on 100mg for the last 10. My numbers were always within working range while on it. Feel good but developed FFA, autoimmune hair loss. Four years ago, a new doctor added T3 and said it would make me feel even better. I took 21mg in am and 21 mg in pm, plus synthroid. My T3 #’s went way above normal, but normal when didn’t take pill before test. All other numbers within range except for TSH which has been .01 for two years. I basically feel ok but do have osteopenia. Hard to know when that developed. Didn’t scan for 10 years. Again, no problems and work out often. MY internist and another doctor warned me about Tsh and T3, and implored me to stop. But feeling good, had no desire to and afraid to. . Due to the pandemic, I had to start to ration these pills. Now down to 7,5 a day. No weight gain. Mild lack of energy. Any advice on this? Is less best? I am basically ok.

Is less best? I am basically ok.

For any prescribed drug or hormone, if you feel well on 10mcg why would you want to take 20 mcg or 30mcg or more? I don't understand your logic, to be honest.

Conflicting doctors opinions. My favorite doctor used to say, don’t look at numbers, if you feel good and no side effects, stick with it. So I’m optimistic less is best. But when doctors collide it’s confusing

Stick with the lowest dose that resolves your symptoms. Too much hormone can damage bones. TSH has a small role in bone formation, so it's good to have a normal TSH.

Some of us need higher doses but I'd always stay on the lowest effective dose.

Give it a few more weeks, if you feel persistently tired increase a little.

If you're "ok" stay on whatever you're on. You do know that when you take T3 you cannot check your T3 or T4 because T3 is already active when it is taken & you therefore can't see if the T4 converted or how much of it was the T3 pill?

I found that out. I didn’t take it when I tested a second time. Totally different result. I appreciate your response . Thank you.
