Hi. I did my first 24-hr Saliva test for Cortisol and DHEA. I have attached an image with the results. I would appreciate your help interpreting them.

This is from the STTM; your ref ranges are different but the same principles apply; ie at the very top of range upon wakening, and at the bottom of range at bedtime, etc.

I´m no expert on this, but my impression is that your cortisol levels are a bit low in the morning and two hours after wakening, but not too bad in the afternoon/evening. Maybe they should be a bit closer to the bottom of range (330) after twelve hours...how is your sleep?

Sorry, not sure how to interpret the cortisol/DHEA ratio. I hope someone else does!

Below from STTM:

----------------------------------------

Here are the consistent results of people who do not have an adrenal problem, which is also your target when on adrenal cortex or hydrocortisone:

8 am (or when you normally wake up): at the tip top part of the range (if top of range is 9.5, people are right there, or 9.4, 9.3.

11 am-noon (or approx. 4 hours after you woke up): in the upper quarter, closer to the bottom of that upper quarter

4-5 pm (or approx. 4-5 hours after the above): right “around” mid-range

Bedtime: at the very bottom (Literally. So if range is 1-4, people are at 1, not even 2)

Thank you PurpleCat71. My sleep isn't stable. Some nights I don't sleep much - I keep waking up and can't go back to sleep very easily, and other nights I sleep OK.

I experienced the same with a mix of high/low cortisol (low in the morning, highish at night so the opposite of how it should be). That affected my sleep, making it harder to fall asleep and I kept waking up several times during the night. How do you feel in the morning; less energetic than you should (I think after getting up your cortisol levels should be above 14.500).

One problem with these ranges are that they are too wide...as the STTM points out, in the morning, they should be literally at the top of range, and at bedtime literally at the bottom of range, so "anywhere in range" is not enough...

Yes, I'm less energetic in the morning. I still have other hypothyroid symptoms and fibromyalgia, so I can't tell what's causing what. Thanks PurpleCat71.
