Help Please, Medi Checks Blood Test

Hi everyone.

i am about to order another Full Thyroid Test, The Ultra Vit, so basically covers everything etc from Medi Checks.

Anyway, i need the result to be as accurate/genuine as possible for myself not to "fool" the GP to show Highest possible TSH, ie, taking blood at earliest possible time in morning fasted as per usual suggestion.

I take my Thyroxine every night at 11.30pm to 12 midnight, would it give an accurate reading if i was to take my own blood with a finger prick at 11.30pm to 12 midnight the following evening 24 hrs after my last dose, i assume i would have to fast for the afternoon or evening prior to blood draw, or is it still better and perhaps more representative of the true position by leaving until the early morning anyway and fasting over night whilst asleep, but that would mean taking medication at say 11.30pm on a Wednesday evening but not doing blood draw until say 7 am on Friday morning which would be approx 31 hours after last dose, just trying to get the most accurate picture of where my levels really are. I hope that makes sense.

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks..

Steve.

Are you aware that the UltraVit test no longer includes Folate? You would need to order the ULTRAVIT WITH FOLATE test if you want Folate included and that has to have a venous blood draw.

If you want Folate included and you want to do a fingerprick test, then look at Blue Horizon Thyroid PREMIUM GOLD and there is a generous discount code here

As for timing, it would be easier to change the timing of your Levo for a couple of days.

Say you do your test on Tuesday, you would delay Sunday night's dose until early Monday morning (say 8am if that is the time you would do your test on Tuesday), then do the test at 8am on Tuesday morning, take dose of Levo immediately afterwards (that would be Monday's dose) then take Tuesday's dose as normal at 11.30pm.

Hi Susie,

thanks for reply and link,

i noticed it doesn't include Folate, my last Folate reading with Medi checks was high 16.72 (range 3.89 - 19.45) and it was 9 months ago, given all the symptoms i'm experiencing i really dont feel that Folate is going to be a primary factor, unless of course it's deemed that important that i really need to check again, money is tight as well, I wanted to stick with Medi Checks from a consistency point of view.

So you would still suggest doing the draw early in a morning then, does that really matter as i am not attempting to achieve the highest TSH purely and simply for a GP but just to see where i really am ?

Thanks

For consistency and to compare results accurately with previous tests, you need to do the test at the same time as previous ones.

If it's any help, daily rhythm of thyroid hormones shown in the graphs in this post:

Thanks for that link, Wow there are some significant swings in that chart.

Problem is with last time i screwed up, i drew blood at 10am but took my last levo dose at midnight 10 hours previously so it wont have been a true reflection will it, false high T4, ? suppressed TSH a bit more possibly ? not sure how it would have affected T3, ? confused now :-(

am i better just doing what you suggested to get an accurate picture this time? and not worry about last time as too short a time between dose and draw. ?

Thanks.

Well, your last results certainly wouldn't give your normal cirulating hormone level, so maybe start afresh and do your new test the way we generally advise and any future ones the same so at least you'll be able to compare in the future.
