I changed to Thyroid S from Thiroyd about 2 months ago. I am very stiff and ache almost everywhere. I have osteoarthritis in my hip. It is affecting my life, after a short walk I have to sit down but after a short sit down I have to walk again. I can hardly move sometimes. The doctor has done blood tests for blood profile and kidney all normal. I have been waiting for an appointment with a rheumatologist for a couple of years. My endo sent me to a gynaecologist who said come back when I have seen the rheumatologist. I go back to the doctors who repeat the same tests. I feel very weak, find it difficult to go up stairs, I have to pull myself up. I can't even get out of a car without problems. I keep pulling my groin every day. I have had this for about 3 years and it is getting worse. My hands and face are very wrinkly, I am 63 but my friends the same age are climbing hills. I just feel as though I am not taken seriously. I have to take paracetamol for the pain. I have Hashimotos diagnosed by the endo but the doctor just says we all have antibodies! I am on no other drug. Does anyone have any idea or know someone who could help please.

Hello Dramlouie
Do you have any results to share with us, as without any numbers everything is just a guess.
I take Thyroid S and understand it to be slow release and dose just once a day.
I don't think all NDT are the same as they all contain different fillers and absorbed at different rates within our bodies, and possibly this brand doesn't suit you, or maybe you just need a different dose and need to increase or change the way you take this one.
I understand it's a full glass of water on an empty stomach and wait a good hour before food or take a couple of hours after food.
Obviously having Hashimoto's throws a spanner in the works as you will need to adjust your dosage as the attacks on your own thyroid render your own thyroid ability less and less over the years.
That might be why, I am taking it like Thiroyd, 4 every 3 hours throughout the day. I told my endo I had changed to Thyroid S but he didn't say to alter the dosing. It might be why, I could be low on T3. Thank you
Well yes it's only by running the numbers can you know for sure and can compare your T3 numbers :
There is an new NDT on the block - called Tru Thyroid and there are posts on here regarding it's efficacy., one very long as it's only ben in the country a couple of months.
I understand it's as similar to the discontinued Thiroyd as has few fillers :
The only thing different is that it comes in 1/2 grain tablets :
Is that right - 12 Thiroyd throughout the day ?
Golly I just take 1 + 1/2 full grains at 3 am in the night :

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
If/when also on T3 or NDT make sure to take last half or third of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
