Ok not sure if anyone can help me understand this. I have had 2 morning cortisol blood tests done and levels where much higher than normal range around 900. I then did a saliva test 6 samples taken throughout the day and this all came back completely normal and in normal range. My question is why is my blood cortisol so high but saliva isn't?

Cortisol level
Saliva isn't always accurate whereas the blood tests tend to be. Were the blood tests full tests or finger pricks? 900 is very high & needs further investigation in the first instance by your GP. It would be worth asking him to do a 24 hour urine test as they are quite accurate in showing elevated cortisol. What other symptoms are you experiencing? Are you on HRT or the contraceptive pill as they can give an elevate result, as can severe depression & alcoholism. High cortisol can be due to long term steroid use, or either a benign pituitary or adrenal tumour. Symptoms can be increasing weight especially around the tummy; round red face; insomnia; thin skin, easy bruising; high BP; red stretch marks; buffalo hump on neck plus other symptoms. Have a look at Cushing's syndrome & if you feel that you have any of these symptoms then ask for further investigations.
