New Test results, gone to Hypo?

I have felt lousy for a very long time. No energy, horrible muscle aches, just overall sluggish. Little appetite, list goes on and on.

Was diagnosed with Hashimotos

My previous test results were

TSH- 4.5 (.3-4.0 range)

TPO Antibodies- over 1000

Free T4- 1.4 (.8-1.7 range)

Free T3 3.4 (2.0-4.8 range)

Current test results after an initial dosage of 50mcg

TSH- .66

Free T4- 1.6

Free T3- 3.1

It appears I’ve gone from Hypo to Hyper? Should I still be feeling this lousy?

1st Appointment with my Endo is tomorrow. What should be asked/ brought up to as of why I feel so lousy? The fatigue/ muscle aches are by far the worst. Could there be anything else causing this?

You have not gone hyper. If you were overmedicated or hyper as you put it your Ft3 result would be above range. It has in fact got lower which is probably why you are symptomatic.

Interesting. Thank you for the response! Will be able to better understand this now.

The Endo is going to reduce your meds because of your TSH level.... don’t let him!

I doubt they'll suggest that Batty1, this guy's only just been started on 50mcg for a few weeks, and tsh is still within range.

Hi again, young American,Come back and tell us what the Endo suggests . i'll be interested to hear. By the way does your 'growth hormone deficiency' involve the pituitary in any way ? I don't know if you know , but TSH is produced by the pituitary, so like jim said it could be a little complicated in your case.

And you've go a VERY high antibody count. I had that too , with a fairly unremarkable tsh of 6ish similar to yours was, and from what i've seen on here , folk with that pattern don't seem to follow the usual 'rules'.

Sorry, but what makes you think you've gone 'hyper'? Your TSH isn't suppressed, your FT4 is still in range, you FT3 has actually gone down!

If you were having a Hashi's 'hyper' swing - which isn't true hyperthyroidism because your thyroid isn't over-producing hormone - your TSH would be suppressed, your FT4 about 30 and your FT3 around 12.

You've been taking 50 mcg levo daily, so it's only natural that your TSH would come down, and your FT4 rise. However, you don't appear to be converting very well and that's why your FT3 has gone down. :)

I was told by my original doctor that my TSH should be around 1-1.5, so I figured my tsh dropping below that, could possibly indicate Hypo. Interesting that I’m not over medicated but still feel very lousy. Do you think my doctor may prescribe a T3 because of my energy?

I'm afraid your original doctor didn't know much about thyroid. A euthyroid TSH is around 1-1.5, but hypos often need more hormone than a euthyroid person, so their TSH is lower - 1 or under, very often suppressed. But, once it gets below 1, the TSH level is more or less irrelevant, and doesn't tell you very much. The most important number is the FT3, because it's T3 that causes symptoms when it's too high or too low. And yours is only 39.29% through the range, so pretty low. A long way from being hyper!

Do you think my doctor may prescribe a T3 because of my energy?

One can rarely predict what an individual doctor will or will not do, but it's highly unlikely. First of all because it's very expensive in the UK, so most of them are unwilling to prescribe it. Secondly because it's rare to find a doctor that knows what T3 does - or even what it is. If he's heard of it, he probably thinks it's very dangerous! A lot of them do. But, it doesn't hurt to ask. :)

I was about to respond but saw the replies from greygoose .... listen to her and you won't go wrong!

Her extensive knowledge is greater than most medics...they do not understand thyroid issues. Sad but true!

Good luck

I'm sorry your not feeling well. With FT4 at 1.6 I was having many hyper issues like you. Aches/pain, Insomnia ,anxiety , heat intolerant , moodiness, palpitations, irritability etc.

I hope your Dr will lower your T4 and add some T3 /NDT for you . Adding T3/NDT with FT4 being 1.6 will make your hyper symptoms worse. You need to lower your FT4 to 1.2- 1.3 and then add for starters small dose of T3/NDT.

From my experience splitting the T3/NDT dose 2-3 x/day is very helpful . I split my T4 dose 2x/day I find it to be very helpful . Some can tolerate dosing with their T3/NDT/ T4 in one gulp.

Are you on any nutrient ? Vitamin "D" K/2 , B-Complex, B-12/folate, magnesium, Iron if you test low, vitamin "C", Selenium , Zinc, Celtic Sea Salt for adrenals/electrolytes . Nutrients are very important for us . They help our thyroid meds work better for us.

Calcium and Iron need to be four hours apart from our thyroid meds.

Going Gluten ,dairy free is very helpful too. Having Hashi sets us up for many food intolerance's as well as fillers in nutrients as well as even thyroid meds or any meds for that matter. For instance I did not do well with Synthroid but I do well with Levoxyl. You will need to tune in and see/feel what you do/don't tolerate and do process of elimination. It's not easy at first . Once you get the hang of it you will see it will come natural to you .

What I found very helpful for myself was with any changes e.g. thyroid meds, food, nutrients to keep a journal .Also go prepared for your Dr's visit with notes for yourself . Like this you don't forget what you want to ask/know in the limited time you have with your Dr. I found that having someone going with me for a Dr's visit empowered me and I found that Dr's are more careful too and don't rush you out .

If you have lab results ask for copies . Write on each lab results the dose you where on . It will be very useful in future times to refer to them.

Best wishes. Good luck with your Dr's visit . Let us know how it works out .
