Blood tests I should start doing privately ?

Hi, I am new here. Thank you for having me :)

I wanted to ask, what are the bold tests that you think are more important to start doing privately ?

I am only being seen by my Gp and decided to start educating myself as I definitely need more care.

Hope this makes sense x

Thank you

Welcome to the forum.

It depends on what blood tests your GP does.

For a full picture we need

TSH

FT4

FT3

Thyroid antibodies

and because we need optimal nutrient levels for any thyroid hormone to work properly we also need

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

Zee1973 I missed a letter out on the first test listed, corrected now to read TSH :)

Thank you, I don't know which ones he is doing now as I am having severe brain fog. So, I will ask and see what he can do from these you just advised and do the rest from my side.

Will have to write notes to be able to speak with him properly,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply !

When you've had the tests done at the GPs, give it a couple of days then ask the receptionist for a print out of your results (never accept verbal or hand written ones). Or if you are in England you may have online access to your results, you could check with your surgery if they do that.

Post results, with reference ranges, on the forum for us to comment. We can then tell you what else you may need and point you in the right direction.

If you are seeing your doc rather than just having phone calls, and suffering from brain fog, you may find it beneficial to take someone with you - (a) to make sure you don't forget anything you wanted to say (b) because they may be more likely to think of things to ask to respond to what the doc says to you and (c) because we feeble women often seem to be taken more seriously by the GP when we have someone - particularly a MAN- to confirm how our health has declined.

But if that's not poss, or it's on the phone, yes notes are a really good idea :)

Thank you, thats actually a great point you just made.. I do feel my Gp do not take me seriously ... but in my case and as I don't have a male I could take, I will juts have to learn to be more assertive.

I am the same as you, I am learning so much by doing my own research, I don’t about you , it’s quite scary how much brain fog affects you

I have to say that it has had a massive impact on my life.. I started isolating myself a lot more as I feel I can't hold a conversation or even any insight ... if something brain fog is my biggest motivation to go on my own ... doctors just ignore the thyroid and say all is fine ... frustrating !
