Private testing which offers most comprehensive

Hi after having a read through many posts I have decided to have private blood testing carried out. The two that come up seem to be Blue Horizon and Medicheck. I want to make sure I am getting a comprehensive range of investigations done so would appreciate any advice on which level to choose. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Katrina I have also been thinking of having private tests. No idea what GP is doing right now. I have had fluttering heartbeats and have gained so much weight over the lockdown

I want to have markers to refer to for the coming possible uphill battle with my GP and to check my vitamins there is so much information that I am a bit bamboozled by it all but so grateful that I have found this site and the people on it to help me along the way.

I use Medichecks myself and have found them to be reliable. Always do your test at the beginning of the week because the weekend will slow it down.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Only test Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday morning and post off test by tracked 24 hour delivery

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Thanks slowdragon I was initially taking it at night however I was having some issues so I have now changed to taking it in the morning 1 hr before breakfast hoping that that will be more suitable for me. Is the Blue Horizon more comprehensive than the Medi check in your opininon?
