I've been unwell since January... Long list of symptoms including fatigue, hair loss, palpitations, breathlessness, insomnia, weight gain. Had initial bloods done back in January. B12 and Folate came back low, this was treated but i felt no better. GP said my thyroid results were fine, but since my B12/folate levels were now back to normal I was convinced my symptoms were thyroid related. Family history of hypothyroidism.
Just got my medichecks results back. Only abnormal result was TSH. I did the test early AM before eating whereas my last NHS bloods were late evening. Ringing GP tomorrow to discuss. Am I in with a chance of treatment if i'm not massively out of range but symptomatic?
Thanks x

Hey there, have all these symptoms when undermedicated. Your TSH is very high, I was treated with TSH 2.5...also, the other results are in range, but that doesnt mean anything, since you can feel very sick with being low in range, especially when you have these symptoms.
Measuring tsh in the evening gives inaccurate results, all my endos asked to do bloods first thing in the morning. I would recommend seeing an endocrinologist, GPs know nothing, endos also know nothing, but you might get a good one, who knows! If you can afford going private, I would recommend it, highly.
Thank you! I was worried unless TSH was over 10 I may not get treatment... I imagine my GP will want to re-do bloods rather than using medichecks results? Will make sure i have them done in the morning again if this is the case.
Definitely something I will consider. Is it something that I should be doing urgently or try treatment for a while first? Will be so happy if this is what has been making me feel so ill.
It depends on a doctor unfortunately, they should treat you according to symptoms.
I am in Ireland and here my doctor goes by private lab results, but most importantly, symptoms...talk to your GP, but if you get nowhere, try another doctor until you find one that would be willing to help you. I would try treatment with these symptoms, normally they would start you on levothyroxine. Have you had your vit D and ferritin/iron levels tested. Low iron can cause palps and breathlessness too.
Iron and ferritin looked okay on my last bloods, well into upper range. GP wants to do her own bloods but in a way good as will have 2 high TSH readings to help with my case for treatment...
Ok good, let us know what bloods say, I am perplexed that in the UK cut off is 10 for TSH🤯here is all about symptoms, same in Poland where I am from. Sorry just mad that this is the reality
You should be able to persuade your doctor to treat you as you are above the range and having symptoms. They like to wait until TSH is 10, but the guidelines say that symptoms should be treated if over range
GP is repeating bloods but is convinced thyroid isn't an issue...She said they upper limit on normal range for my area is 6. Going to wait for new bloods to come back. May be a bit of fight for her to persuade her to try me on some levothyroxine.
Why do doctors keep saying its not the thryoid with high TSH and antibodies¡ Antibodies suggest Hashimotos Thyroiditis. Trouble is antibodies can be there sometimes and not others as figures go up and down all the time but as mentioned, very important to get all your vitamins to top of range. Docs unfortunately dont usually realise the importance of this.
