Change of medicine

I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid after been given anti depressants and sleeping tablets .

Levothyroxine gave me terrible headaches and like a budding sound .

I then paid to see a endocrinologist and he prescribes ERFA.

Within six months I felt a lot better , my hair stopped falling out and I was able to go dancing and travel .

I still not get rid of the excess weight but my head was clear and I was as positive .

Last June I could not get ERFA even though I was happy to pay for it and transferred to Metavive Pro .

Gradually I’ve became me more and more tired . Can hardly climb the stairs and now have to rest a lot .

Could anyone know the difference between Metavive Pro and ERFA ?

It has only just occurred to me that my exhaustion could be the change in medicine

Many thanks 🌸

Could anyone know the difference between Metavive Pro and ERFA ?

The difference is that Erfa is an NDT and Metavive is sold as a food supplement with no declared hormone content.

As Metavive Pro is only available through a practioner and not available for the general public to purchase from their website, presumably you are seeing a practioner. Have you discussed your problem with them?

Do you have current test result, particularly from when you were taking Erfa and to now not feeling so well on Metavive? Your FT4 and FT3 levels could very well reveal the problem.

Have you also recently tested your nutrient levels - Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin, and are they optimal?

Bloods should be ALWAYS be retested 6-8 weeks after any change in dose or brand of any thyroid medication

Do you have Hashimoto’s

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

If/when taking Metavive make sure to take last third or half of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
