Hi Everyone, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 5 yrs ago, and put on Levothyroxine 125mg but didn't see much improvement in symptoms, luckily after seeing a different specialist privately Im now on liothyronine and levothyroxine combination which I have made up in Germany.
Ive been really surprised to read about the Vitamins that are meant to support the thyroid and the changes to your diet that can be made. Id never even heard about antibody tests being so important. So Id like to say a big thank you on the education front, I could do with a little help on some of the abbreviations and different terminology but overall i wish I'd looked on the site years ago!
I'd just like to ask has anyone on Liothyronine managed to revert back to levothyroxine use if all the vitamins etc are in place? I will be retiring in 3 years and am wondering about the cost of private consultations, private prescriptions etc as my GP won't prescribe what I am on currently.

I have been on lio/levo combination for a few years - very happily - and I get it on the NHS
I don't have a lot of confidence in the NHS endo (although he prescribes lio) so I saw a private endo at the end of last year, who I discovered "doesn't do" lio, and he wrote to my GP about the consultation ... and the GP put me back onto levo only. Disaster [see a post I wrote in January healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...]. Happily my GP restored my NHS prescription and I got back to par very quickly.
So it may be better for you to stay on lio and change endos to get it on the NHS ... If you email Dionne at Thyroid UK (use the contact us part of the site) she will send you a list of T3-friendly endos. You don't have to go to the nearest to you - but obv it has to be reasonably convenient for you.
My understanding is that there are two lists ... it's slightly more confusing since the Thyroid UK website changed - it doesn't list the tukadmin@thyroiduk.org email address any more, so I assumed that using the "contact us" facility would allow you to ask for either or both lists. I don't know if the email address is still "live", so I hoped the wording I used in my reply would get the original poster the info needed ...
I had to ask about this as I was confused. I was told that the contact form on the TUK website is for the list of private practioners and we can still email Dionne for the list of thyroid friendly endos (NHS).
I can't find Dionne's email address. It used to be really obvious on the old contact page. But the new website makes me play hide and seek for the information I want, at least in that respect.
