I was really expecting to be told I was hyperthyroid... I've been experiencing for a long-time - sweating, fast heart rate, never gain weight, anxiety. My GP suggested blood tests but couldn't fit me in before the lockdown, and last week told me it would be at least another 6 weeks before I could be seen so I had a finger prick test done through medichecks as I was sure I was showing hyperthyroid symptoms!
Medichecks has said the low ft4 is likely to have been a transient finding as it doesn't fit with any symptoms and tsh ft4 and antibodies are normal, can anyone comment? I guess I can move on from thyroid worries!?
I would do a re-test once the lockdown is over. As for the medicheck comments they told me I have normal thyroid function ha ha ... I wish I did! They know I have graves' and they know I have a multi-nodular goitre. All I will say they are just ordinary clinicians making the comments and they are not experts on thyroid disease. I use them just to check my levels and I ignore their comments because I know that I probably know more about my disease than they do. Just to add did you check your vitamin levels? If you have low ferritin that can cause symptoms as can other low vitamins. When I had a very low vitamin D level of 7 I felt very ill.
Looks like possibly Hashimoto’s...20% of Hashimoto’s patients never have raised antibodies
Or possibly central hypothyroidism
Ft4 is very low
Ft3 low
A second test 4-6 weeks after first abnormal result is standard practice
Strongly recommend you include vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 too at next test
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
All those symptoms can be due to Hashimoto’s..Hashimoto’s frequently starts with transient hyperthyroid Symptoms......results can swing wildly from day to day....even hour by hour
