Vit d: Hi don't know where this post is going 3rd... - Thyroid UK
Vit d
If your vit d is so low that even a doctor notices it, four weeks on a weekly supplement is hardly going to take it so high that it will be toxic! Your doctor is exaggerating - or trying to scare you (they like to do that!). It probably won't make much difference at all.
Toxicity just means that the vit D has gone over-range, but it won't be over-range long enough to affect you - if ever! So, I shouldn't worry about it. The test will probably just tell you you need a higher dose!
Thanks
How low was vitamin D?
NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required
ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...
With loading dose...that’s 300,000%iu over 6-8 weeks and vitamin D should be retested at end of course
GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.
Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol
leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...
GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)
mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...
But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Important to test folate and B12...often low when vitamin D is low
Low vitamin D and low B vitamins may be linked as explained here

In YouTube video when Dr Gominak talks about vitamin D levels ...vitamin D at 40ng/ml (USA units) is equal to 100nmol (UK units)
Ferritin needs testing too

don't fancy going to hospital for blood test during vivid..
You can do a fingerprick blood spot test at home, done by an NHS lab at City Hospital in Birmingham. You will, of course, have to pay as it is a private test:
Have read info... Feel much better about taking it in fact feel I must... But as I procrastinate will take first weekly dose next Monday and if in a month covid Situation not better will do a private blood test... Still tempted to half the tablets though ... Couldn't write it all but my history with tablets is frightening
