Hashimoto's : Hi I paid for a private thyroid... - Thyroid UK
Hashimoto's
That could very well be caused by your thyroid swelling. The full name is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Thyroiditis means swelling of the thyroid. You used to have that, too.
Thankyou for replying,I told my dr my results of private blood test and she said she had never heard of hashimotos!I also have pa,i will wait until next month and do another private test and see if its changed, thanks again
Here in UK doctors only refer to Hashimoto’s as autoimmune thyroid disease
Do you have results to add?
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, with Hashimoto’s
Ask GP to test vitamin levels or include at next private test
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking?
Are you on strictly gluten free diet ?
Hashimoto’s and PA often go together
Presumably you have regular B12 injections
Are you also taking daily vitamin B complex ?
Goodness, I’d be seriously worried about a GP who’s ne’er heard of Hashimoto’s. Even I knew the term long before I had thyroid problems. I know they can’t know everything but to say she’d never heard of it.......
I have a “waxing and waning” goitre, sometimes bigger, sometimes almost invisible. And I get a feeling I can only describe as if my thyroid is screaming for help! I feel unwell and all the feelings seem to emanate from my goitre. Sounds weird, I know, but that’s the only way I can describe it.
GP wouldn’t act on private blood test results, did their own and said they were normal. Hope you get more help than I have.
Yup, I have Hashimoto and I used to have this feeling a lot before treatment. Also an achey feeling in the thyroid area. I am mid meds change at the moment and am experiencing the latter again.
Swollen thyroid gland probably. Are you under any treatment for your hashimoto’s. Its best to have treatment asap else itll just get worse over time.
Thankyou all for replying,I do not take vitamin b,I do have b12 injections regularly and take falsure
Yes I had the same thing this year. They kept telling me I had anxiety which I knew I didnt have. Then did the same as you paid for a test and came back with hashimoto's
