Accord brand of thyroxine

Hi, I've been taking Teva brand of thyroxine and am OK, in the past I was given actavis which gave me terrible headaches.

Although my prescription states Teva brand only, I have been given the Accord brand.

I'd appreciate any information regarding Accord brand as I'm unsure whether to try it

UK Levothyroxine Tablets

Last updated 27/04/2020.

This is a list of currently marketed levothyroxine tablets in the UK.

Please note that re-branding (whether by a manufacturer or as an ‘own label supplier’ - which has happened with several products) does not mean any change to formulation.

🔹 Advanz – branded both “Mercury Pharma Levothyroxine” and “Mercury Pharma Eltroxin” which are identical (manufacturer) – 🥛 contains lactose

🔹 – identifies manufacturers.

🔸 – identifies ‘own label supplier’ products.

– Take particular note of the actual product which varies by dosage.

Numbers refer to tablet dosages in micrograms.

Only products which definitely contain lactose are identified (🥛 contains lactose). Please check other products. Where products are ‘own label supplier’, check the manufacturer.

I was recently prescribed Accord Paracetamol because my usual painkiller wasn't available, I felt nauseous and generally off colour. Turns out it contains quite a long list of excipients, including acacia....not impressed!

My husband took one for a headache and he had a similar reaction.

Accord are aiming to be one of the top selling generic brands....no comment!!

Thyroxine may be different but I suggest you check the ingredients list.

Another thyroid hurdle to jump!

I don't think there has been any change to the formulation of their levothyroxine just because of change of branding.

Looks like it is only one of their paracetamol-only products which contains acacia:

Paracetamol 500 mg Effervescent Tablets

6.1 List of excipients

Anhydrous citric acid

Sodium hydrogen carbonate

Sorbitol E420

Sodium carbonate anydrous

Povidone K 25 (E1201)

Simeticone

Saccharin sodium

Lemon flavour (containing maize maltodextrin, acacia gum (E414) and alpha-tocopherol (E307))

Macrogol 6000

Accord have taken over manufacture of actavis so might be best for you to avoid this brand. I got on well with actavis but not teva. Now Accord have taken over Actavis I am feeling really unwell again. Really hard to get something that works isn’t it? I had a heck of a job getting off teva because the pharmacist told me actavis is more expensive. HopE you get sorted 🤞🏻

I asked to continue having teva (100mcg) prescribed but was told that it wasn't always available. I've been given Accord for the past few months and have been experiencing stomach upsets and mood swings. This is just my experience.

Tell your gp that you want a specific brand as others make you feel poorly. It took a 3 returns of medication to let my pharmacy know i meant what I said. Stay calm, but insistent. I hope you have positive results🌸🌸🌸🌸
