Palpitations and panicky

A late night question. I increased my dose two weeks ago to 100mg everyday and tonight I cannot sleep, I feel like my chest is pounding and I am feeling panicky. It's horrible.

I had previously increased 50mg a week and then another 50mhg a week to take me to 100 everyday. Blood results from earlier this week (so showing the previous increase) read

T4 12.3 (7-17)

TSH 0.86 (0.2-4.5)

I have shared the full results in a previous thread which some of you kindly commented on.

What's going on?! Do I need to drop back down, is there anything else I can do, really hoping it passes soon buts it's been hours.

I am assuming you mean you 'cannot' sleep.

Usually we increase dose slowly by 1/4 tablet every few weeks always taking note if our clinical symptoms are being resolved. If we feel our dose is a 'bit' too much we should reduce slightly. I think (and am not medically qualified) when we increase - it should always be gradual and taking into account if our symptoms are resolving.

That's exactly what I meant 🙈 I've edited.

Not sure what you mean by 1/4 tablet. It was a 75mg increase over 7 weeks but I did it in two jumps after speaking to my GP about feeling no improvement half way through.

I'll have a read thanks.

You can't increase Levo by 1/4 tablet at a time, they aren't used like that as I'm sure you know, assume it was a typo.

She didn't state levo and I did assumed NDT. and 1 gr would equal 100mcg levo.

That's what I assume happened but confusing for the op.

Yes, I mean Levo. So it's much less than a 25mg a day increase and I was only 50% of the reference range at the begining of the week. I'm surprised ive had this reaction, but my heart rate is still galloping along this morning..

Are you saying you increased by 50 mcg for 1 week then another 50 mcg following week to take you to 100mcg ? If so that's far to quick, you need to increase by 25mcg at a time and stay on that dose for 6-8 weeks, test then increase again by 25mcg if needed.

Oooh sorry, I thought you meant 25 a day!

I increased 50 (a week) for about three weeks and and then after another 4 or so by another 50(a week). Too fast? I was thinking that was really slow 🙈

Sorry but I don't really understand what you are saying, normally you would start treatment at 50mcg per day for 6 weeks, test and increase another 25mcg per day so that would be 75 mcg per day and so on until you found the right dose.

Are you saying you increased by 50 mcg per week to 100mcg a day ? If you think it's to much try dropping back by 25 mcg.

Yes, correct! Sorry if it's a bit confusing. So I started on 75mg 3 days and 100mg 4 days and have worked my way up to 100 everyday.

Has anyone experienced this with a similar small increase and middle range T4? It's making me feel very anxious, I'm not sure what I can do to help myself.

The question is, how did you feel on your previous dose. If you felt ok, why not drop back down for a week or so and try again but raise by 5 x 100 and 2 x 75. You’re obviously very sensitive to the increase. Best of luck
