Covid and sinusitis

I heard mention on here somewhere of sinusitis and Covid and my ears pricked up

I had a very bad bout of it a month ago and passed it off as one of my usual. However, there was a difference though

in that it was more severe than usual and now I’m wondering if I had the virus

I suppose I’ll never know because many of the symptoms are similar but it would be helpful to hear from anyone who suffers with sinus problems and whether you’ve had it badly recently

I used to suffer with my sinuses, year ago, before I was diagnosed. But, since I've been taking thyroid hormone replacement, I haven't had any trouble. However, when I was very ill, with loads of symptoms, last November, and now questioning if that could possibly have been Covid, my sinuses were so bad I felt like I'd been punched in the face. And, I couldn't understand why it had suddenly flared up like that. Things are gradually falling into place, and I'm more certain than ever that I did have it back then.

Ok grey goose, thank you

Since starting metavive about three years ago my blood tests are all normal but not optimal. B12, folate, ferritin etc are great and my diet and exercise lifestyle are exemplary, except gluten and dairy. I give them up for weeks and weeks but I always restart. Could those be the culprits? I certainly believe dairy plays a role in the copious amounts of mucus my sinuses produce

And red wine is my poison too. That, I give up for months but always start again. Such is life as a human. We are totally imperfect

I don't know if dairy, red wise and/or gluten could be the culprits. I guess the question is: did you feel any better during the time you weren't consuming them? But, of course, if you give all three up at the same time, and restart them at the same time, you won't have any idea which one is the culprit. It would be better to forgo just one at a time. :)

Wise advice. I’ll be doing just that as soon as lockdown is over. No good trying now, my entire brood is here taking advantage of the good weather with BBQs and lazy breakfasts

Thank you for your help

Yes, I had a really bad bout in January and February went on for 6 weeks. Lots of meds. Worst it’s ever been!

Good to better though

I am convinced that my husband and I have had the virus, which began on 20 December and for me lasted until Feb. I was affected the worst and have never known anything like it. I had the most awful sinus problems and the mucous was such that I described it as ectoplasm. And what a colour (fluorescent green!) and what quantity! I went through loo roll after loo roll. Apologies for the graphic detail but it's something never experienced to such an extent. I do have minor sinus symptoms generally - possibly rhinitis.

I also developed tachycardia, which was still a problem a month after the virus started. All the other symptoms were similar to COVID-19, especially the cough and awful effect on the lungs.

I've been self-isolating from before the social distancing measures were implemented - if what I experienced wasn't this particular virus, then I would hate to think what the outcome would be if I did get it.

I'd like to see reference to sinusitis being a Covid symptom as this would convince me even more.

Thank you for your response but sorry to hear you’ve been unwell. Are you still in isolation, even now?

I experienced the same thing with my sinuses and described it to the doctor at the time, as neon green. Like you I apologise for being so graphic but once I started steam inhalations and putting rosemary drops up my nose the filth really came out. It was brown and malodorous. Doctor said it was really old stuff making its way out. Awful to think I was carrying that around. An interesting development afterwards was crystal clear hearing. Amazing but I can feel ears slowly getting blocked again

It’s strange, the mucus production never stops. I’ve had it for years but I’ve only recently developed frequent sinus infections. I’m told it’s probably related to age old candidiasis

Anyway, thank you for responding

My daughter experienced sinus problems in January, but three weeks ago contracted the virus. 43.8 temperature, acute pains in limbs, continuous coughing ! Still not fully recovered now!

But she’s recovering, which is good news

in reply to Noelnoel

She is. She still get very tired but her chest no longer feels tight.

A relief then because gasping for oxygen is no fun

In case it helps i had a bad long-running cold, with sinus pain, mild temperature and bad chesty cough at the start of the year. It lasted many weeks. More recently i am suffering from what i suspect is covid. I have had occasional bad sinus-type headaches, but although i have had a stuffy nose at times, it has not been like a cold. In fact i have barely used any tissues. The chest pains and very up and down nature of the recovery have also made this feel very unlike anything i have previously experienced. I am 6 weeks in and still not fully recovered.
