Thyroid medication and pregnancy morning sickness

Hi I’m currently pregnant (early stages) and am suffering with morning sickness. I’m managing to control it to a certain extent by eating little and often. I usually feel really sick when waking up but can prevent throwing up by having a couple of bits of toast.

My concern is that I have an under active thyroid and I know I’m not supposed to eat for half hour to an hour after taking my Levothyroxine. So my options are a) take the Levothyroxine and not eat but then potentially throw up... or b) eat with the tablet but risk the medication not being absorbed because I’ve had food with the tablet.

Help!!! What’s everyone’s thoughts. Thanks

Take it in the evening instead. :) You don’t have to take it in the morning. I used to take mine just before bed.

Congratulations!

Oh brilliant thanks. I thought it had to be morning as your stomach is completely empty. I’ll try evening. Thanks.

Just make sure that you leave 2-3 hours after your evening meal before taking Levo (and no other medication or supplements for 2 hours either), and no coffee as that will affect absorption. Best to drink only water during the evening.

Congratulations

Many people take Levothyroxine soon after waking, but it may be more convenient and perhaps more effective taken at bedtime

Essential to get thyroid levels tested ASAP after conception has been confirmed

Have you had 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine?

Hi yes my dose has been increased. I’m pregnant through ivf so my thyroid and other bloods are tested every 6 weeks 😊 Thanks

Oh my - pregnancy with awful sickness is awful. When I was pregnant I hadn't yet been hypothyroid until years later and I actually was thinner/lighter when daughter was born than before. My mother was so worried

I swapped my Thyroxine to bedtime from early pregnancy and take pregnancy Multivitamin in morning as some say b6 helps with sickness. It seemed to help reduce nausea.

But then they found my TSH a little high for pregnancy, upped my thyroxine at 11 weeks and now I have vomiting not just nausea :-( Only 1 x day thank goodness. Apparently it’s all interlinked in complex ways. Hope things go smoothly for you.

Hi there! I recently had a baby & had terrible morning sickness until 28 weeks. I started taking my med at 3:00-4:00 am. It actually seemed to help me feel a lot better (longer time to absorb?), so I've continued with that postpartum.
