Hi everyone, new to this group but have question. I will be really honest, I’m not the best at taking my meds on time, without food or sometimes at all... I caught a cold recently and took my temp and was alarmed to see I was between 95.4 and 96.2 ( way too low). I started reading this is a common symptom of Hoshimoto disease. Anyone else have low temps when first diagnosed with thyroid issues? And yes.... I’m going to get strict on my meds now. Yikes.
Low temperature?: Hi everyone, new to this group... - Thyroid UK
Low temperature?
Sometimes it helps to take meds last thing at night before going to bed. Is that something that could work for you? Some even find levothyroxine works better for them taken at night.
Yes low temperature is one of the signs of hypothyroidism.
Make sure you take your thyroid meds on an empty tummy & dont eat anything for an hour afterwards.
Yes. Some people use body temperature as a gauge of whether they are adequately supplied with thyroid hormone.
Stick to a schedule until taking it every day is like breathing or eating— something you would never overlook.
Yes, there is an association between low body temperature and low thyroid function. Obviously if you forget your pills or take them incorrectly, you can experience this. My body temp was a full two degrees low before starting thyroid meds. At one point, thyroid med was reduced due to heart issues and I suddenly started needing a sweater when everyone else was too hot. Here is some more info about this subject:
Thank you! Yes I’ve been reading a lot about it and I’m absolutely intrigued on how the thyroid and the body temperature affects almost everything. I was reading yesterday that one of the major symptoms with low body temperature and thyroid issues is migraines. A Doctor Who studied this worked primarily on getting peoples body temperature back to normal along with regulating their thyroid and their migraines completely disappeared. I suffer from terrible migraines and I never really contributed it to my thyroid and my body temp. This is all starting to make so much more sense now!
yes- mine was 34.5 degrees C and has never risen above 36.1 C even when I am on 5.5 grains of NDT and my bloods look optimal- I believe this is illustrative of slow functioning overall due to having been hashimotos many years before I discovered it
