B6 supplemets

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows if it is a good idea to supplement vit B6 if you are taking B12. I have been taking jarrows B12 for about 4 years and they have really helped with anxiety and depression. Thought it might be helpful to add B6.

It would probably be helpful to add a B complex, with all the Bs. The Bs all work together and need to be kept balanced. :)

Be careful with B6. Long term high dose B6 can cause nerve damage. For regular daily supplementation a dose of no more than 10mg is suggested. Best to do as greygoose has suggested, take a good bioavailable B Complex to balance all the B vitamins, this is always advised when taking B12.

Good brands say "bioavailable", "bioactive" or similar, and contain methylfolate rather than folic acid, methylcobalamin rather than cyanocobalamin. Two brands popular here are Thorne Basic B and Igennus Super B.

Don't consider supplements that say B100, B50, etc, they're not well balanced.

I second this. Especially if you have MTHFR. If you take pyridoxine & your body can't convert it, it will cause nerve damage. Mine took about 6 months to heal after I quit taking it. Methylated B6 would be the best choice, however start teeny tiny with the dose if you have MTFHR because it can cause anxiety & insomnia.

Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Igennus Super B complex are nice small tablets. Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
