Any ideas?? They’ve been like it for two years. I’ve been told my blood tests were normal but all my research points to thyroid 🤷🏻‍♀️

See from previous post you are vitamin D deficient and folate deficient

Have these been retested since prescribed supplements?

How low was vitamin D.

How much were you prescribed?

Level now?

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

You may need to get full Thyroid testing privately as NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

For thyroid including antibodies and vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Come back with new post once you get results and ranges

I’m seeing my Gp on the 10th to discuss my results. I did get my own print out but I’ve noticed I don’t have results for quite a few things I was tested for including vit d. My folate was 1.32 cholesterol LDL 3.7 b12 217 and inorganic phosphate 1.63 and these are what he wants to discuss. Only my tsh was tested so I think I will have to go private

What’s the range on folate?

B12 at 210 is EXTREMELY low

Range is typically 200-650

Low B12 symptoms

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

B12 and folate work together

You need testing for pernicious anaemia

Ask advice on PAS Healthunlocked

Folic acid supplements can mask B12 symptoms and make B12 deficiency harder to get diagnosed

Get hold of your vitamin D result

How much vitamin D are you prescribed?

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

GP will only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

Did you have your antibodies tested? Could be Hashi's. From what I've read, the moons disappear during the 'hyper' phases of Hashi's, due to pressure on the nailbed. But, I cannot vouch for the veracity of that, because it's very rarely mentioned, so difficult to check.

Nope just tsh was tested

Just TSH doesn't tell you anything much. You want full thyroid testing to know your thyroid status with any accuracy.

You need TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested

Plus testing for pernicious anaemia

Ferritin and iron tested for anaemia as well

Insidious in reply to SlowDragon

Iron levels were normal ferritin was 23.3 so lower end of nhs range

Ferritin is low then ....very common when hypothyroid

stopthethyroidmadness.com/i...

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

hey - did you ever find out what this was?

currently have identical nails that have developed over the last couple of years and my blood tests seem to come back normal.

i have PCOS, IBS, joint hyper-mobility, fatigue, anxiety and what i now believe could be mild hidradenitis suppurativa. i am lactose intolerant and have dermatographia (not officially diagnosed). everything points to inflammation for me.

i'm due to talk to my GP since my periods have gone awol and want to get the most out of my appointment so i can start feeling better. :)
