I think, given the results you posted a few days ago, you won’t get anywhere with your complaint. Your doctors have all followed published guidance—you’re clinically euthyroid (which just means that your results are within laboratory reference ranges).
It’s the reason many of us are here. Many doctors don’t seem to understand that hypothyroidism needs optimal treatment, not just “into range” treatment. But it’s not really their fault—it’s how they’re trained. And these days they get threatened with being struck off if they dare to go against the guidance.
Hi tadger ,i hear that too but i feel so shut down now when i speak to doctors because of the way i have been made to feel over the years .I have basically given up and feel almost like a passive child in their presence (im 48) and didnt even go to the gp for several months recently even though i have several conditions because i just cant cope with being told theres nothing wrong when ive known for years that there is .I dont how to communicate with them when anything you suggest or say gets dismissed.I guess at least they cant do that anymore.
I know what im saying must reflect many many peoples feelings on here. .and sorry but the current system really, really sucks.
Luckily the Gp im seeing at the moment is very good and a bit more enlightened than most so i will just try and talk to her.
That's what to do just keep at them they will try and put you on antidepressants they had me at classes for anxiety I got dead emotional with them I'm 54 and the class was all teenagers sometimes I'm ok other time its horrible
I actually got banned from one surgury years ago by one doctor because he refused to give me a sick note from my care job ..i was extremely unwell and had been diagnosed with "burnout" and because i got distressed (crying alot) and had raised my voice totally non aggressively he told me to leave !
Another gp from the same surgury once stood up mid appointment as i was in the middle of explaining some symptoms ..looked at his watch and the door indicating the appointment was up after about 3 minutes. Those are just a couple of things ..would need an A4 for the rest as im sure you can completely relate to it all.!very sorry to read you have also had similar expeirences ..yep every single appointment the Ad are pushed even though i make it clear time after time i dont touch them .
That's pathetic it would be totally different if they were in your shoes your better asking to see your endocrinologist for a check up and tell him your symptoms
It must be getting on my wife's nerves with me complaining all the time I start a new job tomorrow at a hospital and I feel terrible with tension in head all day 😀
I have felt the same but the Doctors were just following NHS guidelines and they have not broken any rules. I do wonder how they could have told me there was nothing wrong with me when I sat in front of them with a balding head and nails dropping off, I actually looked ill but they told me I needed counseling ... go figure? I also told my local MP my story and she said she would put it to Matt Hancock but I had polite reply and no action was taken. Read my story on my profile page it is similar to a lot of other women's stories who are fobbed off by their Doctors.
Maybe more people should complain, rather than just accept it. Otherwise how will anything get to change.
Go ahead and write to them. You have nothing to lose. If I get annoyed I vent On Good Morning Britains page GMB you never know they may take the story up.😊
Foxy23 really appreciate that reply thanks so much .And i agree with you .
This is why i asked the question.
The problem is certain institutions really dont like to be challenged and i know that sometimes complaining gets you nowhere other than making people see you as antagonistic.
We are not allowed to dare to stand up for ourselves or question anything even if we do it in the politest most thoughtful way.
But like you said ,how do we raise these issues otherwise ?
I feel like all ive ever done is have to fight and push for everything even when ive been so sick and im exhausted.
Now i just generally nod and act like im ignorant but heavy heartedly rolling my eyes on the inside.
I know in a lot of ways docs hands are tied and i get that totally they are certai ly not all bad at all .
However its those ones that dismiss and look down on you that are the problem.
Its the way you spend your life questioning yourself and doubting yourself and being insideously trained not to trust your own gut.
That is a form of gaslighting which is a form of abuse basically.
I dont write these posts to make myself out to be some pity party ,I know there are so many people who have been through exactly the same crap and that makes me feel resentful too. Peoples lives and health are being put at risk because of it.
Its all about money and politics at the end of the day.
Hi there, I've totally stopped seeing Drs. It's a waste of time and I just used to get stressed. I had 15 years of undiagnosed illness and all along it was my thyroid. I was told it was arthritis, my age (it started when I was 40!), stress, the menopause etc and yet my tsh (rarely under 4) was tested every time. They must have had an inkling as they kept testing it. They only tested my tsh though, as per guidelines and no real thyroid tests. I just got sicker and sicker until boom!
Once I had a diagnosis, 5 years ago, I started studying and I rarely see a medic apart from my yearly blood test. Usually they have a whinge that my tsh is too low (suppressed as I take ndt and t3) but I get a full print out and they test whatever I need t3 included. It's possible that they leave me alone because I am well and don't bother them.
Our surgery has recently been taken over so things will probably change and I am preparing myself for conflict but if I don't get what I want I suppose medichecks will get extra business. I don't know if I can be bothered with the stress of confrontation and trying to explain it all over again. Been there done that. I'm well and don't want to go backwards because I'm stressed by medics
Hi .Thanks so much for your reply ,And sorry to hear that you are yet another one who has been failed.
I totally hear everything you are saying ..in the end they just make us sicker.
And like you say the stress of being fobbed off is just too much .
I am guessing that i will now have to have more contact with them as i will need to have thyroid monitored .
I also have other stuff that needs monitoring.
I have spent the week researching researching researching!lol and i am in this strange state of almost elation and deep resentment.
The pieces of the puzzle ive been trying to fit together for probably 20 years have all fitted together almost over night from that one medi checks test.
Literally everything.
I have hyperurecemia which they have wanted me on meds for for the rest of my life and ive always refused thank god be ause they are nasty !Im not gonna take toxic chemicals when i have no definite diagnosis of anything !
Even that i now know ,is most likely related to the undiagnosed hashimotos.
Im so glad ive finally been in a position to afford the test otherwise like so many people out there i would have gone on for years like this getting sicker and sicker ..where as now ,finally i can educate myself as to what i need to be doing to take charge of my health which is hard to do when you dont know whats wrong 🙄
Good luck with your new surgery handover..i have been known to just write stuff down and hand it over to them that way?.its a bit embarrasing to have to do it but its the only way i can convey what im trying to say due to anxiety and cog fog.. maybe it would be easier for you than having to go over everything in a 5 1/2 minute consultation?.Other than that i dont blame you one bit wanting to stay well away .
