what does reverse t3 ft3/rt3 mean
Reverse T3 is the test that measures the amount of reverse T3.
FT3/rT3 is the ratio of FT3 to reverse T3.
However, this test is of no use and is a waste of time and money.
There are many reasons for high reverse T3, only one of which is to do with the thyroid. Measuring reverse T3 can tell you if it's high but it can't tell you why it's high.
If it's to do with thyroid, high rT3 can be caused by a build up of unconverted thyroxine (T4). But this is easy to spot with FT4 and FT3 test results anyway. If you have a high FT4 and a low FT3 then it's possible that the body is making reverse T3 rather than free T3 (FT3). But most rT3 is not caused by this.
Conditions that contribute to increased Reverse T3 levels include: Chronic fatigue, Acute illness and injury, Chronic disease, Increased cortisol (stress), Low cortisol (adrenal fatigue), Low iron, Lyme disease, Chronic inflammation. Also selenium deficiency, excess physical, mental and environmental stresses. Also Beta-blocker long-term use such as propranolol, metoprolol, etc. Physical injury is a common cause of increased RT3, also illnesses like the flu. Starvation/severe calorie restriction is known to raise RT3. Diabetes when poorly treated is known to increase RT3. Lyme disease. Cirrhosis of the liver. Fatty liver disease. Any other liver stress Renal Failure. A fever of unknown cause. Detoxing of high heavy metals.
As for the rest of your results, as you are taking a combination of T4 and T3 then your TSH is expected to be low (even suppressed) and FT4 can also be low. FT3 is the important test when taking combination hormone replacement. Your FT3 is low in range.
How do you feel?
I'm feeling really unwell I am taking 75 levothyroxine and 10 lithyronine sodium, but my gp has said go back to 88mcg levothyroxine and I am in my 3rd day of taking it I am really unwell no one can get my dose right
It takes time to get into your system. T4 about six weeks before retest. Then an increase every six weeks until you’re feeling better. These meds are not an instant fix. And will take a while to get to your correct dose (or near to it). Please understand you can feel a lot better but you need to be patient and informed.
After couple of hours taking levothyroxine I start getting severe body ache and pain in my bones it could it be that I'm taking to much
So could you guide me how to balance my dose I started 62mcg levothyroxine 7.5 mcg lithyronine , then my t3 t4 low and tsh was 10
Then my consultant increased my t4 75 and t3 15 and after 6 weeks I felt shaky legs and palpitation and my result was tsh 0.03 t4 13.4 t3 3.57 , I'm really fed up not feeling well at all
