Could my free t3 level be too high for me?

Hi All,

With no change to my Levothyroxine dosage (125mcg) on my last two blood tests my free t3 levels have been 5.9 (3.8-6.0). On all previous tests free t3 has been no higher than around 5.1. I’ve been having some symptoms of loose bowels, increased need to urinate and very light periods. I wonder if, even though it’s in range it may be too high for me? I’d appreciate any and all advice!

Thanks Sarah.

Yes it could be. why not alternate 100 and 125mcg of levo and see if that helps or reduce by 25mcg.

We are all different and need to find our well level.

Do you have Hashi's?

I’m not sure greygoose. I just wonder because the very light almost non existent periods/loose stools and water works problems have coincided with a high t3 level. I know when I see my doctor on Monday she will want to reduce my Levothyroxine dose. I think maybe it’s worth a good try.

I'm not sure that non-existent periods and excessive urinating are over-medication symptoms. Although loose stool could be.

I agree it might be a good idea to try a lower dose, but not a good idea to let your GP reduce your levo, because should you need a higher dose in the future, you will have problems getting it put up again. Far better to experiment with dose by yourself.

For levothyroxine to work well we need GOOD levels of vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Previous post showed dire B12 and folate.

Presumably you are still supplementing.

What about vitamin D and ferritin

Suggest you get vitamin levels retested

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Is this how you do your test.

Yes, always in the morning earliest appointment I can get and I don’t take my Levothyroxine until after the test. Yes still supplementing although need to find alternative b12 as the one I was taking broke me out in awful acne. Blood/active levels were rising though.

When were vitamin D and ferritin last tested?

Hey Sarahlouise, all three of them I had as a symptom of overmedication in the past. If you decide to lower, you can did that by 12.5 mcg or 25 mcg. 25 mcg sometimes is a big jump
