Vitamin D and cancer

The powers that be can be quite stupid at times. This project, paid for with our tax dollars, appears to show that taking Vitamin D supplements won't help to prevent cancer. Unfortunately, they limited intake to a mere 800 IU of Vitamin D per day, which is wholly inadequate to raise blood levels up to >60 ng/mL, which is the amount that Grassroots has found helps prevent many different types of cancer.

Be sure to check out the calculator that shows how much vitamin D you need to take to raise blood levels to a selected level. Ask your doctor to test your current levels and also test calcium levels. You might not need to supplement calcium at all if you get enough from your diet. grassrootshealth.net/projec...

Also don't forget the important co-factors. Vitamin K2 - MK7 helps Vitamin D to route the calcium to your bones and teeth and keep it out of soft tissues such as breasts and blood vessels. In addition, taking supplemental magnesium helps raise the Vitamin D blood levels. There are many forms, so find the one that's right for you. healthline.com/nutrition/ma...

People in the UK and other non-US places are very likely to get their Vitamin D results in nmol/L rather than ng/mL.

To convert from one to the other people should use this link :

Edit : The link can be used to convert from nmol/L to ng/mL OR to convert from ng/mL to nmol/L.

Yet a search on ‘Vit D and cancer’ will throw up lots of articles about low vitamin D levels being associated with cancer. My brother has prostate cancer (very common and usually slow-growing) and after my mentioning vitamin D his GP confirmed that there is a link but that it was too late to do anything about it. Debatable.

My husband had his prostate radiated over 10 years ago. For 10 years his PSA was nice and low, but recently has started going up. They have him back on Lupron, which has a bunch of nasty side effects. I have shared my high-strength Vitamin D with him in an effort to ward off the osteoporosis that Lupron can cause. And maybe, just maybe, the Vit. D will also help to prevent a return of the cancer. They did a full body scan before re-starting the Lupron and did not see and glowing cancer spots on that, Thank God. But the Lupron was advised as the best way to prevent (or maybe just postpone?) a cancer recurrence.

I was reading somewhere that a study suggested that low vitamin D caused a rise in PSA but cannot recall exactly. There are certainly many, many studies linking low vitamin D to various cancers.
