I had a blood test last friday because I have been having some symptoms and my doctor wanted to rule out my thyroid as a cause. I have an under active thyroid and I am currently on 125mcg of Levothyroxine a day. My results are:
TSH 0.006 (0.38-5.33)
Free T4 13.6 (7.0-16.0)
Free T3 5.9 (3.8-6.0)
The symptoms I’ve been having are loose bowels, increased need to pass water, oilier skin than usual and some hair loss. I’ve also recently started experiencing headaches a few hours after I take my Levothyroxine in the morning then wearing off later in the day.
Could any of these be related to my results?
Thanks Sarah 🙂

They did, not immediately, but down the line. It was so bad I had see a dermatologist, he said no way that will go without antibiotics. Well, it did, but it took a few months. Mind you, I had a really big overdose for a long time
Ahh okay so your free t3 wasn’t even over range and you still had all the same symptoms?? Sorry for asking lots of questions I’m just trying to work out if it could be the t3 causing my symptoms xx
Everyone is different you see, it depends when you take your dose, when you test, on your ft4 sometimes too etc. People were telling me to take more including my doctor and in the end I had to reduce, that was years ago. I guess the question to ask is - can you be undermedicated with these results? Probably not. Could it be any other illness, possibly. But! Sometimes lowering t4 by a smidge can give you a quick answer , like 12.5 mcg.
I know when I see my doctor tomorrow she will want me to reduce my dose. I think I’m going to try reducing by 12.5mcg see if I can get my t3 down a bit. If I feel worse I can always increase it back up. I definitely don’t think I’m under medicated!
I think it's a good idea, let us know you get on. But don't reduce too much, endos tend to ask to reduce by big amounts and then we can swing from one to another
No new supplements or brand change in Levothyroxine. I have changed my contraceptive pill a few months ago but my doctor didn’t think that would cause the bowel/water issues x
Also forgot to mention whilst I was off the contraceptive pill over the summer my periods were very light. Almost non existent. My t3 level has never been as high as it is now it usually stays around 4.9-5. I think 5.1 is the highest it’s ever been before recently.
