Hi. I've been on Thiroyd from Thailand for about 3 years. It took about a year to work myself up to 4 grains. I felt great and pretty much stopped thinking about the condition. I considered the problem solved. Until now! Thiroyd has been discontinued! I purchased Thyroid-S instead, but it's completely different! Even half a grain makes me wired, heart palpitations and crazy insomnia! I'm a mess. What to do??!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Thiroyd discontinued - Thyroid S doesn't work. Help!

Well, there's really no choice with Thai NDT any more. As far as I know there is no news that Thiroyd or TR will start production again so that only leaves Thyroid-S.
You could have a look at all brands listed on StopTheThyroidMadness website and see if anything else comes close to Thiroyd and whether you would be able to access them:
stopthethyroidmadness.com/a...
Altenatively, have you tried Levothyroxine plus T3, that way you can tweak doses to suit your needs.
How many grains have you taken?
I tried to switch straight over. I was on 4 grains of Thiroyd. Because I was reluctant to blame the meds, I didn’t sleep for 4 nights in a row. This morning I took just half a grain a got palpitations and felt hyped and crappy immediately. Haven’t taken any since.
A real problem, this. Many of us here religiously relied on Thiroyd, including myself.
The owners of the popular site that used to sell Thiroyd, TR Man and Thyroid-S were working to come up with their own version of porcine NDT, similar to that of Thiroyd, and it will be called “Tru Thyroid”. Unfortunately, a little while after, the coronavirus outbreak became really serious that they have probably put a stop to it until it’s safe to produce porcine NDT again. I am hoping they actually go through with it - for all of us Thiroyd veterans 😄.
(And, hopefully, it proves useful for everyone else that were/are benefiting from Thai NDT.)
Tru-Thyroid is available now as I'm sure you are aware. Will be interesting to see how myself and others get on with it (sorry for bumping old comment)
Hello Connor. Yes, I’ve already tried it and found it doesn’t work for me so I am now just waiting to see how others get on with it to compare reactions. You can now find many other more recent posts about it on this forum.
Hi could you please tell me whete to get tru thyroid as I looked on their website but it says it is unavailable?
Someone suggested that I try swallowing the tablets rather than taking them under the tongue. I had a 24 hr break (and slept), and this morning I swallowed half a grain. It does seem to make a difference. I can FEEL it (with Thyroid, I took whole grains and didn't feel a thing when I took them), but it's nothing like yesterday. I may just stay with ½ grain, swallowing, for a week and see how I go..
By the way, Thiroyd had a lot of faulty batches in its last few years of production, which affected its potency and made it a lot weaker. That may be why you are feeling such a huge difference with Thyroid-S now.
Back when Thiroyd was more potent and effective, I found it to be far stronger and more effective than Thyroid-S which is why I stuck to it. But now Thyroid-S seems to be the only one that is still effective for those who still take it.
Hi Katz could I please ask how you took your Thiroid and if you split your doses. I have a qusntity of Thiroid here (Not thyroid s) but they seem to be giving me bad insomnia. I am taking 2 grains or do I have to build up to that?
You need to build up to it. If you take too much to start with you might become jittery. If I felt jittery I would reduce it by 1/4 for a few days and then try again.
Hi Yes, like Lora says, you have to start slow. In the beginning, increasing from just ¼ to ½ per day gave me palpitations and insomnia etc. It took me a full year to work myself up to 4 grains. If you find, you've taken too much, stop completely for at least 24 hours and go back to where you were. Be patient
I have been taking Thyroid S for years now. One thing I remember when I started to take it, I did have minor palpitations and headaches. I just plowed through and in a week or so all of that stopped. I would have minor symptoms as I would increase my dose and within days would feel good again. My understanding of Thyroid S (some people disagree)is that the coating gives it a timed release effect. That is why you must swallow...not take under the tongue or chew. My suggestion would be to start slow and increase as you can. You may find with Thyroid S that it is stronger then Thiroyd and you won't require as high a dose.
I split my dose through out the day leaving the appropriate amount of time between food/vitamins and my Thyroid S.
Hm, yes, but were you switching from another NDT? I understand all the symptoms that go with NDT when you start them for the very first time. I had all that with Erfa. I just didn’t expect them now, having been on NDT for years and having switched from Erfa to Thiroyd with zero issues... And thanks 😊
Thiroyd and Thyroid-S aren't identical in how much T4 and T3 they contain, which might make a difference to how you feel.
Thyroid-S contains approx 38 mcg T4 and 9 mcg T3
Thiroyd contained approx 35mcg T4 and 8.31mcg T3
Thyroid-S has a hard coating on it that would be slower to break down in the stomach and gut.
Thiroyd didn't have any kind of coating on it so that it would most probably be digested quite rapidly.
You could try chewing your Thyroid-S as an experiment to see if it acts more like the Thiroyd you were previously taking.
Thanks, humanbean. I read that too. However, I get the opposite feeling - as if Thyroid-S goes straight into my system and makes me hyper and jittery almost immediately, whereas with Thiroyd I didn't feel a thing when I took it. But I have started swallowing Thyroid-S now, and that definitely seems to help/slow it down..
Oh no! I’m in exactly the same position as you. I almost cried when my supplier from Thailand told me that they were posting me their last packet of Thiroyd, and that production had stopped ☹️. I do so well on Thiroyd.
I tried Thyroid S for a while, same dosage as Thiroyd, and didn’t do so well on it.
I’m hoping to see a professor soon in South Wales who will prescribe T3. Fingers crossed that it will replace the T3 I’m getting from the Thiroyd.
Hi Boon79
Yes, it's incredibly frustrating!! I've also been so well on Thiroyd for years. Really didn't expect to be in this situation. It feels so unfair. However, I'm committed to making Thyroid-S work (I believe there's only one doctor in DK who specialises in transitioning people from NDT to synthetic T4+T3 and getting to him is very difficult. Also, T3 is really expensive).
I am now swallowing the half tablets, and it seems to make a BIG difference. I'm not getting any palpitations or discomfort now, and I think I may even dare to go up to two grains today (I was on 4 grains of Thiroyd). So... I'm much more optimistic now. It's a bloody nuisance, but I'll make it work!
Good luck and keep me posted in a few weeks as I may need to take the same journey if this professor won’t help with the T3!
I will do!!
Hi, I know where to buy Thiroyd. I believe they still have some. You can pm me.
Hi im in the same boar can you please tell me where I can get Thiroid?
Kimmy_Cat, coukd you email me and tell me where I can get Thyroid? Wendzes@msn.com
Hi Kat, how are you getting on with Thyroid-s now? I'm almost finished with Thiroyd 4.5 grains so I'm wondering should I start with 2 grains of thyroid s perhaps as everyone says it is stronger.
Hi Anna. Apologies for the long response time. I'm doing well!! I swallow Thyroid-S whole now (not sublingual or chewing), and that works just fine! I was careful initially due to my unpleasant first experience, but, when swallowing, I found that I could increase very fast - in fact, I would probably have been able to substitute my Thiroyd dose directly if I'd just swallowed them. I'm on 4 grains of Thyroid-S now (same as I was on Thiroyd), and I feel fine
Hi...how are you doing on TruThyroid? I just received my order in.Hoping it will be a good replacement for thyroid-s.I loved thyroid-s but can no longer find it.
